Netgear C6900 - Login does not work in Chrome - Your connection to this site is not private error

I wish to update my router settings. Tried logging in at http://routerlogin.net. Also tried the ip, http://routerlogin.com, http://www.routerlogin.net, http://www.routerlogin.com, I verified that my password is correct. Username is of course admin. I tried logging in from IE, Chrome and Firefox. Different versions of the same message.
Please help.

Does this mean that your browsers block access, or that you are put off by those security warnings?

Is this a Windows warning?

By the way, it may not matter, but you have posted your message in the section of this community given over to Apps and Services. (This is easily done, given Netgear's impenetrable community structure.) Your C6900 is a Cable Modem/Router.

You might get better replies, and find other answers, over in the appropriate section:

Your web browsers may be complaining because they're worried about
your sending some user credentials over an unencrypted/insecure link
("http://" instead of "https://").  The easy thing to do is ignore the
warning, and proceed.  Presumably, you're talking to your own gizmo on
your own LAN.  If someone can overlisten to that traffic, then you're
already in big trouble.

I tried Firefox and Webroot (my secuirty) will not allow me to get on to "routerlogin.net".  I am told the site is not secure either as did Chrome.

Is there a way to go into Netgear's website to update?

Don't you have an option to ignore those warnings?

It sounds like the browser is bending over backwards to protect you from "dangerous" stuff. In this case you are trying to get at a local address, on your own network.

Does the browser gag if you use an IP address?

If it is Webroot that is getting in the way, talk to them. They have clearly created security software that cannot handle some "real world" situations. Neither Netgear nor the browser makers can do much about that.

You can accept this in the browser and continue. It's just the browser letting you know that the HTTP connection is not using HTTPS which is not required when your on the LAN side of the router/modem. Just continue, it's ok.

Thank you all for your help, but I give up.  When I put in routerlogin.net  it now asks for my user id and password.  As soon as I do that I get an unauthorized message.  Next time I need a new WiFi I will try another company, maybe one that just sends me an email that I can immediately connect with to update firmware.

Be sure you are entering in the correct PW for the admin log in. If your not sure. Factory reset the modem and walk thru the setup wizard with a web browser and this time write down all important information. Its not that hard.

It might also be worth pointing out that pretty well all router brands, and makers of many other things, have exactly the same routine for accessing the controls on their devices.

And as you point out, you have to get things right. If someone is entering the right details and it does not work, then look for the underlying problem.

Login failures are invariably down to getting the configuration wrong or to something else on the network getting in the way. Browsers are good at blocking access. Operating systems can do it to.
