Using R6220 on Virginmedia Superhub 2AC in modem mode
Just aquired the R6220 and looking to set this as my home router and switch my Virgin superhub 2 (which doesn't support DDNS among other things) into modem only mode.
I have quite a few devices on my home network including cctv, Qnap NAS and other devices which I prefer to keep on static IP's. On the superhub 2AC I use the default subnet 192.168.0.x with DHCP enabled and I would like to use this same subnet with DHCP enabled on the R6220 so that I don't have to reconfigure all the devices with static IP's. This would make it easier also if I have issues when configuring the R6220 with DDNS and other ettings which would easily allow me to change the Virgin hub back to router mode.
With the Virgin hub in modem mode the single LAN port available has IP 192.168.0.100. Would there be an IP conflict with the R6220 LAN side IP's and the WAN side connection with same subnet, or do I have to use a different subnet on the R6220?
I would be grateful for any advice please

Terminology: A "static" address is configured on the device itself.
What you configure on the (DHCP server on the) router is a reserved
dynamic address, not a static address. Which do you mean?

I know nothing about a "Superhub 2AC".

That's not the Netgear default for a router, but you should be able
to configure an R6220 that way.

I'm not sure what that means. Can you point to any documentation?
For a comparison, as a special case, a DOCSIS cable modem typically
can be accessed at "192.168.100.1", but that's not the same as saying
that its LAN interface has that address. As a modem, it doesn't really
have its own LAN IP address. It can, however, intercept (and handle)
traffic to that special address.
If you configure an R6220 with "192.168.0.*" as its LAN subnet, then
I would not expect it to send any message destined for "192.168.0.100"
(or any other "192.168.0.X") through to its WAN/Internet side. Which
might make managing the Superhub 2AC difficult without moving Ethernet
cables.
Of course, if you get it to work, how much more management would a
simple modem need?

Re: Using R6220 on Virginmedia Superhub 2AC in modem mode
Thanks Antinode
Sorry about confusion. The Superhub 2AC is actually a Netgear product. The Virginmedia label says it's a VMDG490 and I believe it's a rebadged modified Netgear C6250 but with 4 x Gb LAN ports. I kept the LAN default subnet at 192.168.0.1 but set the DHCP scope to be 192.168.0.100 to 254. So yes, you were correct that my 14 wired devices use reserved IP's in the range 192.168.0.2.to.99. I want to make the DHCP settings on the R6220 the same so I do not have to reconfigure the wired devices at all including all the port settings etc. Hopefully this would mean just setting up all the ports/forwarding and rules within the R6220 to match those that were in the Virgin hub. In effect then I could set the hub to modem mode and connect to the R6220 and if needed, remove R6220 and switch hub back to router mode. You may have answered my question about conflict with WAN side! I mis-read the link IP as 192.168.0.100 where it is in fact 192.168.100.0 as you mentioned was typical for DOCSIS cable modems. So I think I'll give it a try unless you can see any issue I might run into. Thanks for your help.

Ok. That makes more sense.
Your plan sounds reasonable to me. (Only one way to find out.)
