It can be used as an Access Point - there is just no specific setting in the GUI. I am using mine as an access point now. Just perform the following steps:
Connect to the C6300 and make the following changes:
- Set the LAN IP to an IP that is not the IP of your primary router (typically 192.168.0.1) AND is not in the range of your current DHCP settings (Modify your DHCP settings if needed). I have mine set to XXX.XXX.XXX.2.
- Change your wireless settings for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz to the same name, password, and security settings as your primary router. This allows you to have your connected devices roam and use the strongest signal without having to reconnect.
- Change the channel for both wireless bands to something different than your primary router. i.e. if primary uses channel 1 for 2.4Ghz and 44 for 5Ghz, set the C6300 to channel 11 for 2.4 and 157 for 5Ghz. Hint: use an app on your phone like WiFiAnalyzer to see what channels are currently in use around your house - try to avoid overlap as much as possible to improve performance.
- Turn off DHCP. You only want IP managed by your primary router.
That's it! Now connect the C6300 to your network, and it acts like an access point!
I realize that this does not make it a wireless Access point, but thought others might want to do this.
