N300 (C3000) in Bridge Mode with TWC

The Netgear C3000 seems to have an underpowered router and Wifi radio compared to dedicated devices.  I have a separate router that I can pair up with the modem that can fit the job perfectly.  I would prefer, then, to just switch the C3000 out of Router Mode (i.e.: Advanced -> Administration -> Router Mode -> OFF) and just let my dedicated router grab an IP from Time Warner (my ISP) and have the Netgear simply provide a bridge between the two.

Unfortunately, I can't turn the C3000's Router Mode to off when it is trained up to TWC.  It is extremely odd, because when I access the Router Mode screen, neither radio button (Yes/No) is checked.  If I select Router Mode NO and submit the form, the modem reboots itself twice and then reverts back to router mode.  Even stranger, if I disconnect the modem from TWC and just connect to it directly I'm able to configure the modem into Bridge mode just fine.  As soon as I re-connect the device to TWC, it reboots reverts to router mode.

I've gone through all the settings and troubleshooting with both Netgear (completely useless) and TWC (marginally helpful) and they've both agreed that there seems to be a defect in the firmware that doesn't get along with TWC.  Netgear suggest I replace my router with a refurbished model for 27$ in shipping costs (haha) with no gaurantees that anything would be resolved.  Mostly they just asked me over and over again why I wanted it to be in bridge node.

I'm curious:
1. From Netgear, is there a known issue with the modem's firmware, bridge mode, and Time Warner Cable?
2. From the community, does anyone else own this device and have you succesfully flipped it into bridge mode.  I'm assuming it is an infrequent use case given that it is a combo unit and I'm effectively turning off the majority of the features that are a part of the device.  I'm just trying to see if I can avoid eating the money here and replacing it with a motorola :(

After installing the Mac VPN passthru profile I was able to place the Netgear C3000 in bridge mode and it maintained the bridge mode thru a couple reboots. After which I was able to connect and configure a TP-Link TL-WR841N wifi router. Doing this also increased my wifi speed from 28 to 60Mbs on the TP-Link router.

    Hello Jonathanpmast

This isnt a Firmware issue but a issue with the configuration file pushed by the isp that is not allowing the device to be put into bridge mode.

Yes I did communicate this to a higher level and they are investigating the issue.

  • Same issue here. Tonight I'm going to head to Wally World and grab a surfboard due to my lack of patience. Sorry Netgear :(
