Parental Controls just opens a new window
I have a CG4500BD Wireless Router that I purchased when Cox became my ISP about 6 months ago. I am trying to set up parental controls through the web gui using my windows 10 pc. The Netgear Genie web portal shows up, and tells me that I have firmware version 2.01.07. Everything is still set up the way it was when Cox delivered it to me, with the exception of the login password. When I click the parental controls box on the gui, a new browser window opens to http://www.netgear.com/lpc. That site tells me all about how easy it is set up parental controls. It also tells me to download the genie app for my iphone. It all sounds wonderful. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to turn it on. When I go back to the web gui, I still see the same parental controls button with no settings options. The genie app on my phone tells me that it either cannot find my router or that my router is not supported. I have verified that the IP address, username, and password entered in the app are correct. I do not have guest networks set up, so I am logging in using the main network, and I am not using ipv6
(1) If my router is not supported, why does the web gui tell me to go download the app? Is it supported or not?
(2) Why does the web gui just pop up another window? It should allow me to make some configuration changes. If the parental controls aren't supported by this model, I shouldn't even see them. Are parental controls supported or not?
(3) I have tried to use OpenDNS by just changing the DNS server addresses to be those provided by OpenDNS. Unfortunately, I have been foiled again. I can only change to using static DNS entries if I also use a static internet IP Address instead of getting it dynamically from my ISP.
(4) I see no way to download new firmware.
My frustration level is very high right now. These are simple things that Netgear has chosen to do poorly. I hope someone can tell me what is going on.
have you tried using the PC genie app? you can download it here.

Darren,
Thank you. The pc version of the app allowed me to enable the parental controls. There was still one issue that I had to find a way around, though. When I tried to create an OpenDNS account using the app, it kept telling me that my password did not meet the minimum requirements (It did...I checked about 6 times to make sure that I wasn't going crazy). I eventually created the account via the OpenDNS site (the same password worked fine there). Then I used the now-existing account to log in via the app. The process was frustrating, and I really hope that Netgear works at making this better. At least it is working now though.
