Hi,
When i'm connecting to the web administration interface, the firmware version installed is « 12.04.02.00 » (see attached files) .When i'm trying to look for an update firmware, it's saying my firmware is update but when i'm going to the netgear download center, i'm seeing a « 12.06.01.00 » version firmware for my product [MD5 : 2ea14de53970689cf5a65479df4925c0 - http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/MR1100-100EUS/MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00...].
Is there a bug in the web administration interface when i'm asking to check if my firmware can be updated ?
Can i install the firmware downloaded from the net gear download center ?
If y can install, i downloaded an .exe file and the web administration interface is expecting .spk file if i want manually update the firmware. How can i install it ?
Regards

Hi Francois,
I have your same device and same problem with automatic update check: it doesn't work so I update manually.
1. Download http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/MR1100-100EUS/MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00...
2. Unpack the executable with unrar (it is a RAR SFX archive)
3. You will find 2 files: a windows executable and the firmware
4. Rename the fw file: MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00_00_Generic_05.01.secc.cwe to MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00_00_Generic_05.01.secc.cwe.spk
5. From the web gui of the router, update manually by pointing at the renamed file.
6. It will reboot 2-3 times at least, it took longer than previous updates, be patient and wait, you can monitor the progress on the router's display.
7 Enjoy and let me know if it worked. 🙂
Cheers,
Alessandro

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
I have just tested this installation and no problem, it went fine.
1)Remove sim card of your device.
2)Plug in with USB.
3)Run the update executable by double clicking the file.
4)Monitor the update process.

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
Hi Kudos,
Thanks for your answer. According to your answer it's available for windows and i'm using a linux distribution.
But my first problem is why the web administrative interface doesn't detect there's a more recent firmware version available (see attached file) ? Is it a bug ?
My second problem is the firmware version proposed at the netgear dowload center is it applicable to my router ? Is there a reversible way if I install a non compatible version of the firmware (reinstalling the previous one by having copying it) ?
My third problem is there an other way to update the firmware than connecting by USB cable to a windows PC ?
Regards,
François

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
Well well, firmware update process always have some risks. There are no official, easy way to roll back, if serious problems occur. I can roll back if I need to.
In my case, webgui 'check update' did not find this update.
USB-connection is the connection method when doing 'factory style' firmware install.
From download section, just type MR1100 and it shows different submodels and choose the right one. On the other hand, people can wait that update comes available via webgui.

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
Hi Tee74jay,
Thanks for your answer but you can understand by buying 300 € a product where I can buy an mobile router for 100 €, I can expect an official answer from NET GEAR about this software conception error and incoherency. It's not against you. I'm going to search how to have an offical answer to my question by NET GEAR.
Thanks for your contribution,
Francois

It looks like some trouble with AT!GSTATUS? command output: at least SCC1 and SCC2 band labels have false information.

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
I have seen this same happening with Dell Precision laptop. Then I updated one MR1100 with Asus PC, no problem with it. No other problem using MR1100 EU and that Dell pc.

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
I am currently abroad and have only a MacBook Air 2014 with Bootcamp and Windows 10 with me. Maybe that's the problem.
Or is there any other possibility to update the FW?

Hopefully FOTA delivery starts soon, apparently no signs of that yet.

I extracted the downloaded file and renamed it to ending with .spk and then I was able to do the update via WebGUI successfully.

Hi Francois,
I have your same device and same problem with automatic update check: it doesn't work so I update manually.
1. Download http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/MR1100-100EUS/MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00...
2. Unpack the executable with unrar (it is a RAR SFX archive)
3. You will find 2 files: a windows executable and the firmware
4. Rename the fw file: MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00_00_Generic_05.01.secc.cwe to MR1100-100EUS_23113509_NTG9x50C_12.06.01.00_00_Generic_05.01.secc.cwe.spk
5. From the web gui of the router, update manually by pointing at the renamed file.
6. It will reboot 2-3 times at least, it took longer than previous updates, be patient and wait, you can monitor the progress on the router's display.
7 Enjoy and let me know if it worked. 🙂
Cheers,

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
But this has always been the case with them. They built a bad reputation unfortunately. Even though the products are good. But that is not enough anymore, they should really address this problem.
Ciao,
Alessandro

Re: MR1100-100EUS - difference between firmware version
You unpack the file, it's a rar archive, and rename the firmware file to .spk and from the web gui of the router you update the firmware.
