We'd love to help but we need more info.
What modem are you using? ISP that you're connecting to?
What router are you using? Firmware on it?
Once the modem is activated through your isp (did you do this?), you usually get it working afterward by following this procedure.
1. power both devices off
2. power up modem for a couple minutes with nothing connected.
3. plug modem's ethernet cable into wan port of router.
4. power up router. Give it a couple minutes to fully boot.
5. setup your router.
