Nighthawk MR5200 not connecting in USA - fine in UK/EU

Hi there,

I've been using the MR5200 successfully around the UK and EU for a number of years. However, I've just been on a trip to Washington DC, USA and I just could not get it to work despite trying a number of SIMs, APN settings and even a Factory Reset. It would only display 'Searching' where the MNO name is usually displayed. Once back in the UK it's back to working fine. At least 2/3 of SIMs tried in US worked in other devices at the same location, iPhone & Nighthawk M6.

Hardware Version: 1.2

Firmware: NTGX55_12.04.17.00

Modem Version: MPSS.HI.2.0.c3.5-00010-SDX55_CPEALL_PACK-1.403198.3

Sounds like a carrier issue, MVNO's usually do not allow tethering ...

what specific USA SIMs or Carriers have you tried it with? and what plans? Things work a little different here in the US. as with most other countries, rules for charging text voice and data can be different. even the device's ability to access data allowance is different. It is different between USA carriers as they set their own rules. I agree, other carriers outside of the US do not restrict data usage on their network as much as the US carriers.

I had UK sims with international roaming that worked in iPhones and M6 Nighthawk in DC but not in the M5200

When I returned home they worked fine again

That may be a setting for that sim/carrier... Maybe a roaming data setting with the account, maybe a cap. As I dont believe its unit issue... Using a phone is one thing, but using data only is another.
