D6400:PC connected with ethernet cable but only get a wifi connect. How do I get ethernet connect?
I have a Netgear D6400 modem/router. I have the main home PC connected to the device with a quality ethernet cable. It extends from the ethernet port of my computer (Dell Inspiron) to one of the yellow ethernet ports (I've tried several) of the Netgear device. When I look at the network map (Netgear Genie), it indicates that my PC is connected with a wifi connection and not an ethernet connection. The signal is strong and it works fine but I wanted to have my PC linked via ethernet. I have several devices connected via wifi and they all work well. I also have a Magic Jack connected via ethernet and that device is actually shown on the network map as an ethernet connection. Why won't my PC default to an ethernet connection, as well? Why does it insist on being connected via wifi when there is an ethernet cable connection to my PC? How do I get an ethernet connection for my main PC?

Is Windows reporting any errors with the Ethernet Adaptor?
Have you told Windows to use the workgroup?
Windows can be a beast when it comes to setting up networks. It has improved over the years, but can still stump people.
Which version of Windows do you have? Tried running the Network Wizards? Look for Troubleshoot Problems.
