D7800 firmware issues.

Hi all,

I`m not sure if this topic has been already discussed, if yes please point me to solution.

I have a Nighthawk D7800 and some issues with firmware. Mainly after restart or flashing firmware (current installed is D7800_V1.0.1.56) I`m able to login to the router only for few hours. After a time period I`m no longer able to login without hard reset performed on the device.

Error messages vary but most common is:

Failed to create pipe: Too many open files

I`ve tried from different browsers/pc`s etc however it doesnt let me in no matter what.

I also reflashed the firmware and performed default settings reset but again after few hours I`m not able to do anything.

It wouldn`t bother me much however i have a NAS attached to it  via USB which becomes unusable after login page is unavailable.

Any help appriciated.

Kind regards.

Re: D7800 firmware issues.

It may not matter, but you have posted your message in the section of this community given over to Nighthawk WiFi Routers. (This is easily done, given Netgear's impenetrable community structure.) You might get better and quicker replies, and find other answers, over in the appropriate section:

DSL Modems & Routers

If you do that, it might help to say what else is on your network.

"Mainly"?  Does older firmware work better?

Where are you seeing these "Error messages", when you do what?

"tried" what?  "it"?  "doesnt let me in" to what?  Not a useful
problem description.  It does not say what you did.  It does not say
what happened when you did it.  As usual, showing actual actions with
their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more
helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

> [...] i have a NAS attached to it via USB [...]

That means some (unspecified) kind of USB-connected storage device?
Does disconnecting it help?  ( NAS (Network-Attached Storage) is what you
get when you connect a storage device to the D7800; the thing which you
connected to the D7800 is not "a NAS", only a storage device.)

> [...] which becomes unusable after login page is unavailable.

Does "login page" mean the D7800 management web site?  Is that what
"doesnt let me in" was supposed to suggest?

> It may not matter, [...]

Most likely, not.  And posting the same query in multple places can
do more harm than good.

I did state that I try to login to the router. To be more specific using IP address in the browser or  http://routerlogin.net (on any device)
When typing either I don`t even get login page just the error shown in original post.

Login page shows nomraly for few hours after restart or after I flashed the newest firmware and I can access Neatgear Genie. Same issue appeared on older firmware D7800_V1.0.1.47 and I didn`t go further back to test.

True. It is only storage device connected via USB - apologies for wrong usage of NAS word.

Despite that, same issue occurs with or without USB device connected.

No. It means the network location which is created by the D7800 ReadySHARE feature (also called the same way) that you can access from "My Computer"

Hope this helps to clarify. If not I`m happy to provide more info.

Hard to unravel that one.

What is "the network location which is created by the D7800 ReadySHARE feature"?

That is normally an address like:

\\READYSHARE\SamsungUSB

Is that what you are talking about?

If so, we are outside the Netgear router and into Windows.

The "My Computer" thing also smells like Windows.

You never did tell us what else is on your network.

You have already managed to confuse USB and NAS storage, easily done because some people do equate the two, but it helps to have complete details.

Lets not dive into Windows since i don`t believe it is the main issue here. If that`s the case I would be able to access the share from any other device on the network right?

Step by step:

1. Router reset.

2. Go to router login page via IP or http://routerlogin.net

3. Login with username an password

4. Netgear genie works and i can change settings, check my network, USB attached storage works and I`m able to use it.

...few hours later without router reset.

5. Go to router login page via IP or http://routerlogin.net.

6. No login prompt -  just error message from post one
7. Not able to use USB storage as it becomes unavailable. WiFi and Internet access still works on all devices.

8. Reset router to get steps 1 to 4 working again.

Rinse and repeat.

Im not sure how else I can explain this. The same issue occured on both firmwares.

Currently on my network there are:

1 PC (wired)

1 Laptop (wired)

1 TV (powerline)

2 ECHO devices (WiFi 2G)

2 Smartphones and a tablet (WiFi 5G)

If you say so.

In which case, I leave others to delve in the entrails of your network.
