DM200 Lost Connection to Internet

My set up: Asus RT-AC68R & Netgear DM200. Issue: Lost internet connection.
My connection was great for a long time until one day I lost my internet connection and I cannot get it back. I unplugged and replugged the power cord after 15 seconds and I cannot get the modem to connect to the internet. I then, press the reset button for 10 seconds and let the modem cycle. Still, it cannot connect to the internet. A Netgear tech verified that the hardware is good and the issue is the network. I passed the tech service plan hoping I maybe able to get an solution from Netgear Community. Additionally, I can purchase another modem for a lot less or the same as the service plan. What cause the modem to stop connecting to the internet and is there any solution without me having to buy a new one? I have also reconnected my 9+ year old & failing Xyzel modem/router and it connected to the internet. Hence, I suspect it’s the new DM200 has the issue. Kindly anyone help with this issue?

Re: DM200 Lost Connection to Internet

Have you put the DM200 into "modem only" mode?

There is a manual for the DM200 somewhere at the end of this link:

>>> DM200 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<

See page 69.

Re: DM200 Lost Connection to Internet

Thanks for the reply. I had this set up before until I lost my internet connection. To get to that setting I need to be able to log in to “routerlogin.” I cannot. I have a yellow triangle showing in my netwok.

Possibly because you are getting into the network via the router.

But what shows this yellow triangle? The browser? How are you connected? Wired? Wifi?

The fact that you can get in with an old modem/router tells us not much more than that you are using different equipment. It certainly does not tells us the the DM200 is upscrewed, just that you may need to reconfigure it.

Start from scratch. Reset the DM200. Attach that, and only that, to your network. Go in and configure the DM200 in modem only mode (see above). A wired connection is best. Then reboot the whole network as specified.

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

  • Turn off and unplug the modem.
  • Turn off the modem router and computers.
  • Plug in the modem and turn it on. Wait 2 minutes.
  • Turn on the modem router and wait 2 minutes.
  • Turn on the computers.

Re: DM200 Lost Connection to Internet

The yellow triangle is located in the computer taskbar. The browsers I had used to troubleshoot are Firefox and Edge. I am connected via wired directly.

I followed your written procedures as instructed. Still, I cannot access the Netgear DM200. Connecting directly to the DM200 is one of the procedure a Netgear support instructed me to do but no luck.

My original setup is from a desktop computer with DM200 as modem and Asus as router wired connection. I then tried connecting directly to my laptop just to see if it will work. The result still the same with that yellow triangle sign. The diagnostic still detected "The connection your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken."

I further checked by connecting directly to my 9+ years old Zyxel modem/router to both my desktop and laptop and got connected. No yellow triangle sign showing in the taskbar. I had also replaced the CAT cable with a new one, CAT5e from CAT5. I appreciate your patient trying to help me out. I'm just baffled why the DM200 just stopped connecting to the internet one day and why it's can't just be reset it or can't get accessed to it?

I assume that this is a Windows PC and that this taskbar is really the "notification area". If so, this suggests a local network configuration problem.

The PC seems to be having a problem connecting to the LAN.

Then  again, that is just a guess. I don't know what is showing this yellow triangle. These things always have something beyond them.

Did you follow the earlier advice on performing a factory reset?

Find the instructions in the manual I linked to earlier.

Re: DM200 Lost Connection to Internet

My bad. It is a Windows PC and the desktop running on Windows 10 while the laptop running on Windows 7. You're right, the taskbar area is a notification area on top of quick access to common applications. As far as hard reset, did it as you instructed. Before getting help from a Netgear support, I did attempt a hard reset according to the Netgear DM200 manual it came with and then again with a Netgear tech. The sad part is it's a new gear and it has this issue too soon. Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Whose "the hardware" is good?  Whose "the network"?

Clearly, there's a problem of some sort with the DM200.

If you've reset the settings of the DM200, did you also go through
the normal set-up procedure to get the DSL parameters re-established?
Depending on your ISP and service level, the DM200 has plenty of
DSL-related parameters which could be wrong after a settings reset.  On
the bright side, your working (unspecified) "Zyxel modem/router" could
be used as a guide for the various parameter values.

Many things are possible.  A power spike or some other disturbance
could have corrupted some critical setting or other, or some hardware
could have failed.  Presumably, it _could_ be reset, but that would put
it into a default state, not a configured-as-was state.  If you had
saved its settings back when it was working, then it should be possible
to restore those saved settings.  If you didn't, then a fresh
configuration would be needed.  If "can't get accessed to it" means that
you can't talk to its web-browser management interface, then it may be a
goner.  Do the LED indicators on the DM200 indicate anything
interesting?

> [...] Windows PC [...]

If you connect a Windows system to the DM200 (wired would be
simpler), then open a Command Prompt (CMD.EXE) window, and run an
"ipconfig" command.  Report the "IPv4 Address", which should be the
address of your computer, and the "Default Gateway" address, which
should be the address of the router.  (Copy+paste is your friend, but
not a strict requirement in this case.)

As the manual suggests, your computer should get an address in the
192.168.5.* subnet.  If, instead, your computer gets some self-assigned
address (169.254.x.y), then the DM200 is not doing its basic (DHCP
server) job, and you have more to worry about than its DSL parameters.
