Re: DM200 router fail
From your description are you saying it works when in modem only mode with a router? Do you have internet access in this mode? If so the modem sounds like it's OK. When in modem/router mode all the setup needs to be done on the DM200 with a PC directly attached. Normally a device that's put in modem only mode will have credentials and stuff handled from an attached router (The DM200 may be somewhat different in this respect).

Re: DM200 router fail
Just had a chat to Netgear support who told me the DM200 is only a modem, and is confused how I have managed to access the internet before.... now I am even more confused.
It would appear the Internet is on and the DM200 is able to successfully communicate with it. I just can’t access a webpage, whether through the desktop when directly connected or through google wifi.

Normally, a power interruption would not make that necessary, any
more than cycling its power switch would. Did it actually misbehave in
some way, or were you just trying to make more work for yourself?
After you told it to forget all its settings, did you also
reconfigure it?

In modem-only mode, a separate router would be available to deal with
the PPPoE authentication. In modem+router mode, the DM200 itself would
need to do that, bit if you told it to forget the PPP credentials, then
I'd expect that operation to fail.
Similarly, in modem-only mode, it might show a good Internet
connection when all that it knows is that it has a good DSL link
(because it's now too stupid to know/care about more than that).

That's wrong. Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model
number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look
for "Disable the Modem's Routing Features and Use the Modem as a DSL
Modem Only". Further reading might not hurt, either, especially the
set-up stuff near the beginning.
By default, the modem functions as both a modem and a router with
a limited number of routing features. [...]
As a casual observer, I'd say that if you can disable the router
functions of a DM200, then it seems likely that it has some router
functions to disable. It is, in fact, a modem+router, with an
especially primitive router.

"can't" is is not a useful problem description. It does not say what
you did. It does not say what happened when you did it. As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Re: DM200 router fail
We had a power outage and we could no longer access the Internet. It would seem that the DM200 looses its settings when this happens. So I go through a reset and this usually works. We get a lot of power outages in rural Australia. We had a DM200 before at it got fried by a storm so we replaced it. Perhaps it has been fried again.
On this occasion it did not work. I followed the DM200 manual to the letter. I don’t change any settings myself.
Every time i go through the reset it connects with the ISP and sets itself up. Every time it says the ISP user name and password are incorrect. I have checked and double checked with the ISP that the ISP username and password are correct.
I am at a loss ! After 4 days of trying to get it connected I am about to go out and buy something else and toss this one in the bin.
