What is TDS?

Your Internet service?

Have you asked them, or other users, which devices are known to work on the TDS network?

They won’t provide that info as they want you to rent from them.

Who,or what, are"they"? You are going to have to help us out here. If this is an ISP, you need to do some research and turn up here with some useful information on the requirements for any modem you need.

With thousands of ISPs out there, it is impossible to offer blanket answers to vague questions.

Many people would find a quick Web search for, say:
      TDS  DSL
to be easier, faster, and more reliable than a question like that here.

      https://tdstelecom.com/support/internet/connection-speed-availability.html

TDS offers different DSL speeds in different markets.

So (even if you're not among the helpless), by itself, "TDS DSL" is
not enough information from which to conclude much of anything.

What, exactly, do "they want you to rent from them"?  Can you rent it
for a month, for educational purposes, whatever it is?

If you don't get many responses from TDS customers in a Netgear DSL
forum, then you might interpret that as a clue.  Netgear seems to have
lost interest in DSL.  I'd look elsewhere.  A Web search for, say:

      TDS  DSL  modem

might uncover more useful information more quickly.  If you can
determine what's supported or what works, then a little Ebay exploration
might find something with a suitable modem at a reasonable cost.  If
that device turns out to have a lame router, then it'd probably be
possible to retain its modem, and add on a more capable router.

For service which uses bonded DSL lines, Netgear is not the ideal
vendor:

Still true, of course.  Whether this requirements list applies to the
OP is tough for the non-psychics here to establish.

Re: I need a router/modem compatible with TDS DSL

I know it's difficult to believe that an ISP is so secretive about the settings required.

Here's their advice on settings:

"If you choose to supply your own modem, Technical Support is not responsible for the configuration or support of it. TDS also cannot guarantee that Internet service will function properly if you use a modem not provided by TDS."

Didn't know TDS did DSL. In my neck of the woods (St George, Utah) TDS does cable TV/internet.
