Hello All,
I really need your advice with choosing DSL modem for creating a network with them.
I've diceded to choose DM200 to connect them directly using VDSL and my question - is it possible? Does this model support CO (server side) and CPE (client side) connection models?

Thank you, Guys, for you answers. I've got reply from Netgear engineers and they confirmed that DM200 is able to work only with providers but not as point to point.

Re: Is it possible to connect directly two DM200 modems via VDSL?
I would like to emphasize that I want to connect these modems (DM200) directly to each other using one simple cable cord.

Re: Is it possible to connect directly two DM200 modems via VDSL?
Let's get back to basics.
Are you trying to combine two separate Internet services?
If so, that's not a trivial problem. You would do better to research that question before worrying about joining two modems.

Re: Is it possible to connect directly two DM200 modems via VDSL?
No, in my case there are no internet providers at all. I would like to connect two points using wired telephone cable using two DM200 modems. One of them will play server role and onother one will play client role. I'm talking about VDSL.

I don't know, but I doubt it. I haven't seen anything in the
(consumer-grade) DM200 documentation which would suggest that this is
possible.
You might get better advice if you described the actual problem which
you are trying to solve, rather than choosing some particular "solution"
(like a VDSL bridge), and a particular type of equipment (like a pair of
DM200 units), and asking if this "solution" can be made to work.
> Are you trying to combine two separate Internet services?
That's not what he said.
> [...] You would do better [...]
I could offer some advice about offering advice when one doesn't
understand the problem.

I'm talking about VDSL.
Sorry, I don't get that. You plan to run your own VDSL network?
If this is just a case of trying to use LAN cables to bridge a gap that now has phone wires there are probably better ways to achieve this.
How long are the wires? Do both ends share the same electrical mains circuit?
Left guessing what you are really trying to do, it is hard to come up with ideas.

Apparently.
This sort of thing was commonly done in the days of analog telephone
modems. Among the many differences between that and modern technology:
practically any old analog modem could be configured to work at either
end of a point-to-point connection, and single-line modems were very
common.
Similarly, practically any old analog modem could be used to support
either end of a dial-up connection, and many ordinary computer users
offered dial-up access this way. I don't get out much, so I know
nothing, but I've never heard of anyone other than a telco having any
interest in CO-side DSL equipment, and I'd be at least a little amazed
if there's any single-line CO-side DSL equipment available. I'd expect
all that stuff to be multi-line, hence too expensive/impractical for
typical users. But what do I know?
In any case, a consumer-level forum like this is not where I'd be
looking for advice about any such equipment.

Close. It would be using phone wires to bridge two LAN segments.
> [...] there are probably better ways to achieve this.
Why didn't I think of that? (By the way, "CO" = (telephone company)
Central Office.)

Re: Is it possible to connect directly two DM200 modems via VDSL?
Yes, I need my own VDSL network (without any internet providers and so on).
In my case I'm not able to use LAN cable, I have only wired phone cable. I'm talking about analog phone, not optical. The length between my points is approximately 400 meters.
And yes, CO - it's Central Office mode, CPE - it's Customer Premises Equipment mode. For me it's just playing with words: CO - plays server role and CPE - plays client role.
I know as minimum few brands who provide such equipments, for example Zyxel offers P-871M model which is able to be CO also as CPE.
My question was: does it possible to configure DM200 from NETGEAR as CO from one side and as CPE from another one or not? Maybe someone has access to that device and can check these opportunity in admin console via UI?
Thanks for your help!

Have you looked at the DM200 documentation? Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation. Get the User Manual, Product Data Sheet, and anything
else which looks interesting.

ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/P-871M/user_guide/P-871M_1.pdf
Overview
The P-871M is a VDSL modem in CPE (Customer Premises Equipment)
mode and can also act as CO (Central Office) equipment. [...]
Thanks for the info. I see that it has a serial port, too. I
(continue to) doubt that the DM200 can do this job.
