Modem stays locked up a lot

This modem stays locked up a lot,  after numerous call to tech support and now my free support has ran out guess they will not speak to me anymore.  They only fix is to reboot it.  Sometimes it will work a few days and other times you have to reset it 4 or 5 times a day.  When it locks up you can not access it through wifi or wired.  I have even tried turning all wifi off and using another routes plugged into for the wifi and it still locks up.  At this point Im thinking the only fix is to just get another modem.  That was my last suggestion to tech support to just exchange it for a older one that works but never got a repsponse.  Anyone have a reccomendation?

What is it?  Look at the product label.

Is that accurate?  (As it says, a D7000[vX] is a modem+router, not a
simple modem.)  Firmware version?

> [...] stays locked up a lot, [...]

Which means what, exactly?  As usual, showing actual actions with
their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more
helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

"access it" how, exactly?  What happens when you try?  "can not" is
not a useful problem description.  It does not say what you did.  It
does not say what happened when you did it.  See "As usual, [...]",
above.

   Provide a better problem description?

Re: Modem stays locked up a lot

Yes that is accurate.

V1.0.1.70_1.0.1

All the lights stay white even when it is locked up and not working.  In fact I have never seen any of the lights go to orange when it stops repsonding or working.

I am unable to access it through a wired connection or a wifi connection.  I am unable to logon the modem.  I am unable to connect to the modem.  It is froze or locked up Im assuming just like when a computer locks up.

Restarting it fixes the problem for a varying amount of time.

   Hmmm.

> [...] I am unable [...]

"unable" is less informative than something like, say, "When pointed
at 'routerlogin.net', I got the following error message from my web
browser: [...]", but it seems consistent with what happened to me
recently:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1706952

So far, I haven't seen it recur, but there could be many reasons for
that.

I assume that the real problem is more lame Netgear firmware.  My
plan, if the failure happens again, was to go back a version or two,
probably to ".68", where I didn't notice anything like this.  I haven't
seen any significant changes in the saved-settings files (".cfg") for
approximately ever, so I wouldn't expect a settings reset to be needed,
or restoring old saved settings to cause any new problems.

>                          Down                     Up

> Noise Ma             6.1                     14.0

Assuming that you're looking at ADVANCED > ADVANCED Home > Show
Statistics, around here (slow ADSL):

      ADSL Link           Downstream    Upstream
Link Rate           6144 Kbps     896 Kbps
Line Attenuation    26.5 dB        18.0 dB
Noise Margin        15.2 dB        17.0 dB

I know nothing, but I don't see anything horrible in there.  In any
case, any DSL signals problem might justify a sub-normal DSL indicator,
and, perhaps, a sub-normal Internet indicator; no such problem should
cause the D7000 to freeze.

Re: Modem stays locked up a lot

I use 192.168.0.1 when I log into the modem. That is when its not locked up. I have had this modem for about 7 months and from straight out of the box and the firmware being upgraded 4 or 5 times over that period I have not found that It worked any better with any of the previous firm ware. Rolling it back a few versions will not help the problem in my opinion. If anyone has one of these modems and it is working good I would love to know how. Everything I read this is just normal for this modem and I don't think there is any fixing it.

Re: Modem stays locked up a lot

If it has always done this i.e. the lockups are not a recent problem then troubleshooting IMO is about ISP settings first & foremost. What ISP do you have and how is that set-up. Maybe a screenshot of the 7000's BASIC > Internet page (with ISP, DSL Mode, VLANID interface, etc. would give us a place to start.

I have owned my D7000 for almost a year and have had similar problems to yours, but not recently i.e. mine might lock-up once a month or some such, and then it's probably because I am fiddling with VPN operations or the like.

Also, what kind of clients and how many? We have 4 or 5 iGizmos, a dozen or so Windows and Mac pcs and NAS devices, and the usual Smart TVs and DirecTV box and I even have an R6700V2 that operates in Bridge mode via 5GHz Wi-Fi to a number of wired clients.

I had a problem with Beamforming early-on too that seems to have gone away with the .70 update perhaps.

In the absence of more info from you I can suggest only to try resetting to Factory and ALSO re-installing the latest firmware update. Someone else here had a problem with it and reinstalling fixed it...

Re: Modem stays locked up a lot

I have Dish Network, several computers, 1 smart tv, 3 smart phones, just your normal stuff, nothing out of the ordinary.  I think it was my second or 3rd call to tech support they had me do a factory reset, looked at all my settings, had me change things on the wifi and several other things and in the end it still locked up, some times several times a day, sometimes every few days.  I think it is just a unreliable modem that cannot be fixed.  I want to go to another modem that does not do this all the time but I am not sure what to buy.

Re: Modem stays locked up a lot

AFAIK Dish Network does Satellite TV and not DSL service. Who is your DSL provider? VDSL or ADSL?
