Netgear Nighthark X8 slow connection

I bought a Nighthawk X8 to replace the generic VDSL Modem/Router provided to me by my ISP.

The issue im having is that when using the Nighthawk my maximum download speed seems to be 69Mbps which is much slower than the 80Mbps i was getting with the generic ISP provided router.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this would be?

The Nighthawk is running the most recent firmware avaliable from Netgear, the issue is present both when using WiFi and Ethernet.

Is this a wifi speed or wired speed?

If wired, the R8500 is a router, so there has to be a modem in there somewhere. What speed do you get when connected directly to the modem?

If the modem itself delivers faster speeds than modem + router these are things that people have tried to fix the "router is throttling my modem" issue with various devices:

• Ensure that the cable from the router to the modem is up to the job
• Check for the latest firmware (and a factory reset)
• Check that you have the right Internet settings for your ISP (especially MTU)
• Turn off QoS
• Turn off the Traffic Meter

That won't be an  exhaustive list, but it is a place to start.

HI, i just noticed my typo, it is a D8500, so the Modem/Router not the router only
