WNR2000 Bridge mode setup

Hi all,

I have a WIN2000 Netgear modem that I 'll like to repurpose as a bridge serving up wireless and wired connections.  It's connected to my FIOS router in one of the available LAN port to it's WAN port.   What settings on the WNR2000 do I need to allow the FIOS router to handle all the IP addresses/router  and make this work essentially as as a switch for both wired and wireless connections?

I have another router ( Amplifi HD ) which was painless to set up ( there's a "bridge" switch ) .  Any and all replies are appreciated.

Regards.

Frank

Router, not "modem".  What's its actual model number?  Look for
"Model" on the product label.

"bridge" is a widely misused, hence ambiguous, term.  It sounds as if
you want to configure your "WIN2000" as a wireless access point.  The
details of how to do that might depend on the actual model number (with
its version suffix).

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for
"access point".  If you're lucky, then you should find the relevant
instructions.  If not, then there is an alternative scheme.

Re: WNR2000 Bridge mode setup

Right you are, it's a router and not a modem  -- a bit of cross talk  of the stuff I m reading.   The model is a WNR200 Wireless N Router.   No version number I'm going to upgrade the firmware once I get a handle on the steps to make this work as described above.  I got the manuals here, but  need to get up to speed on the nomenclature again.   What's the alternative method?  The downside of leaving it plugged in  ( w 192.168.1.1 IP ) is that it can cause inexplicable network crashes.   I just want to set it up so it works without regards to configuring it if the ISP changes.     What's your alternative ?

thanks

I  HAVE disabled DHCP but the LAN ports (obviously) don't work.  wireless does though. What am I missing?

"WNR2000" (plain, no "v2", "v5", or whatever suffix)?  That one
seems to be too old to offer the one-step WAP-mode option.

   See, for example:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1463500

That's written for a Netgear C6300-as-WAP, but the steps are about the
same for any other router (any make/model) which lacks a one-step WAP
option.

Note that that scheme leaves the WAN/Internet port on the
router-as-WAP unconnected.  (A WAP is all-LAN.  A model with the
one-step WAP option effectively reconfigures its WAN/Internet port as
another LAN port.  Without the one-step WAP option, you need to use only
the LAN ports.)

Re: WNR2000 Bridge mode setup

hi thanks for getting back to me. there's no suffix on it.   If I upgrade firmware does that turn it into the v5 ?

The wireless side works great with the LAN DHCP disabled.   the Fios Router is handling the DHCP, it comes up on the laptop side as Fios. perfect. but when I plug in the Lan port to the laptop, I get the lights, it connect but no internet.   it can't be THAT much of an antique. I m reading thru that discussion with the other router.

thanks again.

Nope.  There's always some chance that newer firmware (newer than the
User Manual) will add a feature which the manual doesn't mention.  For
comparison, look for "Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point" in the
WNR2000v5 User Manual.  If your firmware has nothing similar at
ADVANCED > Advanced Setup, then you're stuck with the (more cumbersome)
ad hoc scheme.
