Configuring Plex Remote Access with NAS device

I am running a Plex server on a NAS device (Western Digital my cloud home, model number WDBVXC0040HWT) which is connected to my router via ethernet cable. The Plex server runs fine, however I am unable to successfully configure the remote access feature. I did not receive any error messages on my router while attempting to configure UPnP or port forwarding. The only error message I recieve is when I press retry on plex remote access, it displays the same message "Not available outside your network". Any help would be appreciated.

When UPnP is turned on, the portmap table displays this:

ActiveProtocolInt. PortExt. PortIP Address
YESTCP44349592192.168.c.d
YESTCP3240026176192.168.c.d

When configuring port forwarding, I created a custom port:

Service Type: TCP

External Port Range: (wasn't sure what to put here, so I tried both 49592 and 26176)

Internal Port Range: 32400-32400

Internal IP address: 192.168.c.d (NAS device)

I also added the IP of the NAS device under address reservation via LAN setup.

IP addresses:

Router: 192.168.c.d

NAS device (my cloud home): 192.168.c.d (private) 70.171.198.162 (public)

Router details:

Firmware version: V1.1.0.34_1.0.1

Connected to SB5101 SURFboard Cable Modem

Re: Configuring Plex Remote Access with NAS device

I have a similar setup. I'm running the plex off my R9000 X10 router with 10TB hard drive connected via usb.

I am getting the error, "an error occurred while attempting to play this video check the connection and try again.

I have all of the same settings I always have and just need the router to update to the latest PLEX software. It's still back on the Sep 2020 version and PLEX has a May 2021 version out.

@Support Please help and advise. Thanks.

Did it come with any instructions for external access, say, regarding
port forwarding, or which ports it uses, or anything relevant, or were
you hoping that intuition would do the job?

> [...] when I press retry on plex remote access, [...]

You're doing what, exactly, on what, exactly, where, exactly?

> When UPnP is turned on, the portmap table displays this:

How much of that do you think is related to your Plex server?  (I
avoid UPnP, so I know nothing, but I doubt that 443 is, and the "Ext.
Port" values look (to me) like noise.)

There's no reason to hide any private addresses.

_That_ was what you wanted to disguise.

Most likely, you want the same as the Internal Port Range, at least
until you learn what you'd need to do on the client to deal with some
other port.  Not all of the UPnP stuff applies to explicit port
forwarding.

I know approximately nothing about Plex server access, but my quick
Web search (plex ports router) led to:

      https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138

For the usual problems with port forwarding, see:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1859106

But I'd guess that your main problem is a defective port-forwarding
rule.

No, you don't.  Compare "NAS device [...] connected to my router via
ethernet cable" with "hard drive connected via usb".

You should start your own thread for your own, different situation.
You might want to include some information about what _you_ did to make
_your_ Plex server available to the outside world.  And the firmware
version of your R9000.  And to what it's connected.
