802.11q VLAN

My ProSAFE GS116E is configured for Advanced 802.1q VLAN mode. I’m wondering what happens when an Ethernet frame arriving to a port from the outside is tagged for a VLAN Group that the port is not a member of. I can think of three possibilities:

* The frame is dropped (ignored).

* The frame enters the switch with its current VLAN tag.

* The frame enters the switch but its tag is changed to the port’s default PVID.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks.

Greg

Re: 802.11q VLAN

Hello gfvalvo,

Answer number three is the correct one. It will let the frame enter the switch but it its tag will be changed to the port's VID.

Thanks,
