I've given up on using this chasis.
I'll look into options of repair. Recommendations are appreciated.
I'll also look into buying anothe rchasis. But it seems to me all the newer models are ARM-based; RN424 included.

There are not many options for repair. Netgear has never provided out-of-warranty hardware repair or parts for their NAS lines, much less schematics for troubleshooting. About the only thing you could try is a power supply replacment, and that doesn't sound like your issue. Your issue could be the SATA backplane or the main motherboard, and buying a complete used replacement would be easier than buying thoise parts. Of course, that would be no newer (and possbly older) than your old one, so a current model rerplacement is recommended.
I don't know where you are getting your specs for the RN424, but it uses an Intel Atom C3338 Dual Core Processor. While the newer NAS are using mostly SoC solutions (meaning no future CPU upgrades), the 400 series and above are still Intel Atom or Xeon, not Marvell ARM.
