ReadyNas per network
Hi Folks,
This is more a curiosity question.
What happens if two or more readynas sit on one network?
Can they be linked like Synologies or do they sit as two seperate enterties?
Thanks
David
Watch the video again and they were being linked via a SATA link!

How can Syno be linked? Talking of some iSCSI LUN tricks providing block storage from one to be served naively on another?

They are separate entities and you want it like that. Linking them could mean a failure of one causes data loss on both.
- schumakuGuru - Experienced UserBeyond, none of the three big NAS. makers us supporting a network wide management of multiple devices (like local users, groups) or assistance on synching local workgroup passwords, and much more. One vendor does offer at lest a dedicated management software - but it's not part of the nice Web management environment.

I do see some value in being able to apply at least some configuration changes to all ReadyNAS.
That said, I haven't found it difficult to manage my various ReadyNAS independently. Though I have had a lot of users (and wasn't using AD) I'd likely really want coordinated management.

Not sure what video you are referring to - on NAS SATA or eSATA ports you can only connect expansion boxes e.g. with SATA port multipliers (as Netgear had the EDA500 - no longer available).

Synology also have expansion units, so that may be what you are seeing, not two NASes.
