Netgear Genie app does not open

I've been using this off and on for a few years. Just tried to bring up the Netgear Genie app and it did not respond. The wireless router is working fine. I have a Win 7 desktop PC as the main computer, all up to date.

Can I uninstall and reinstall the Network Genie without disturbing the settings on the WNDR4500 (N900) router? Is it that simple a fix?

Hey Lsbcal,


you should be able to. The genie is just an app that has access to the router. It doesn't hold your router settings. I think you're good with uninstalling the genie and re installing it

Thanks for the reply Covillen. If there are no further comments to this in a couple of days (no hurry on this I guess) then I'll to the reinstall.

Today I uninstalled Netgear Genie and reinstalled it. Works fine now.

I am having a similar issue with my R6250.  Whenn I try and open it  I get a "Netgear Genie has stopped working" it goes out in windows and looks for a solution. Comes back with a no solution availablle. I have uninstalled and re-installed twice with no success......HELP

Are you encountering the issue on a Windows 10 device? If so, you may use the download link below for the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie program.

Good Evening;

 

I am also having issues with Genie and Windows 10.  I get the message that an error has occured.  Reloading does NOT help.  Genie seems to work just fine on Windows 7 machines and on my iPad.  Just my Windows 10 laptop seems to be in trouble.  Does this mean that the current version of Genie is NOT compatible with Windows 10 and that I need to roll back to the previous version of Genie?

Yes, there have been several reports that the latest version encounters an issue with Windows 10. As a work around, you can install the older version using the link below.

No need. Engineering was already made aware of this. I recommend keeping an eye out for the next update for the NETGEAR Genie program.

I just installed a new Netgear router and had the same problem with windows 10. Fortunately the second download site worked.

This link for the prior version is asking for a code and is not accessible.  I am still having this issue when I try to uninstall and reinstall and cannot get the Genie to work on my Windows 10 PC.  Help!
