WN2500RP acts up every few days
I have a WNDR3400 netgear router connected to comcast business class using static IP. I have a WN2500RP that uses fast lane technology to connect to my router on the 2.4G band and devices connect to the extender on the 5G band.
Most of the time this works fine. But every few days devices cannot connect to the extender anymore. Rebooting the extender makes no difference. But rebooting the main router and then rebooting the extender fixes the problem.
When this problem happens, the main router seems to be working fine: i.e., I can connect other devices wirelessly to the main router; it is just the extender that seems to be in a bad state.
The 2.4G light on the extender is green always which I guess means that it is getting a good signal from the main router.
Any help debugging this would be much appreciated.

- jmizoguchiVirtuosotry using address reservation on 3400 under lan setup of router GUI and specify the IP within the DHCP range of the 3400 to extender.
- deoneAspirantThanks for your advice. I've done this and will report if it helps.
Does the extender itself has limitations on what IP addresses it can use when it connects with the main router? - jmizoguchiVirtuosoit only uses same IP from the DHCP server(router if that is your DHCP)
- deoneAspirantUnfortunately, I had the same problem after your suggested fix.
When it happened on my main router I noticed that the extender was still connected:
192.168.1.250 WN2500RP
Moreover, this is the same IP address in the address reservation.
On the main router the starting and ending IP addresses go from 2 to 254.
Rebooting the extender fixed the problem. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to fix this.
Amer - deoneAspirantSorry, one more piece of information:
My main router is set up to use static ip using a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252 in case that has any bearing on the problem. - jmizoguchiVirtuoso252 subnet ? Only two IP's?
- deoneAspirantThis is what comcast asked me to use as the subnet. I have only one static IP address from comcast. Please note that this subnet mask is on the main router not on my extender.
- deoneAspirantThis is what comcast asked to use (I have one static IP address from them). Please note this is on the main router not on the extender. Should I just use a dynamic IP from comcast?
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoThat is Internet port/WAN
Extender uses LAN side of the router which normally class c subnet 255.255.255.0
Comcast network has nothing to do with it - deoneAspirantOK. Sorry to take up so much of your time but
1. My base wireless router was setup for the internet using the static IP settings I described. I think what you are saying is that the extender acting up has nothing to do with this.
2. Do you have any further tips for how to fix my extender problem? I have reserved 192.168.1.250 for my extender on my base wireless router but the extender continues to act up once a day or so. When it acts up, the base router still shows the extender connected with the above IP address. But I cannot connect to the extender. Rebooting the extender usually helps though some times I also have to reboot the base router (even though I am able to connect other devices to the base router just fine).
