WNDR3800 firmware bugs/mess??
Hi,
The router starts off with no WLAN signals. So the 2.4GHz en 5GHz signals are off. After logging into the router (routerlogin.net in browser (IE, Opera, Mozilla) ) I then try to switch on the 2.4GHz signal by ticking the box /Enable Wireless Router Radio/ in the pane that can be reached via the tabs BASIC->Wireless, followed by clicking Apply. However, nothing happens! Usually the router needs something like 30 seconds to switch on the 2.4GHz signal but everything remains dead. So it looks like the Apply button does not work. I tried several browsers and rebooted the router several times, but still no 2.4GHz signal. Same problem with the 5GHz signal. With v1.0.0.16 I did not have that problem. Of course, one can switch on the WLAN using the physical button on the front panel of the router, but then both frequencies (2.4 en 5GHz) are on.
Can anybody tell me what the problems is??

- jmizoguchiVirtuosoif you have NOT hard reset after flashing the firmware, do so. it may not loading the firmware correctly.
if still the same issues, revert back and again reset the router. if this fixes the issues then contact support for bug report at my.netgear.com - NGDiracDeBrogliAspirantI got a power on/off button and Restore Factory Settings pinhole at the bottom plate of the router, but a hard-reset button I have not seen on my router.
So could you explain me how that hard-reset thing actually works, or what it means, or how to implement it on my router (wndr3800)?
Should the router hard-reset itself after updating the firmware?

- NGDiracDeBrogliAspirantI've done as instructed on the page you gave me. Unfortunately, the problem persists. So the Apply button does not work, while the Cancel button does. On other pages of the NetGear Genie interface, the Apply does work normally.
So, how do I revert back to v1.0.0.16 on my WNDR3800 router?
Johan - jmizoguchiVirtuosogot to support.netgear.com, find your product support page, download other firmware and reload from the web interface, then reset the router

I downloaded to my computer HD both versions of the firmware, that is v10016 (which was the original version when I bought the router) and v10018. From my HD I reinstalled v10016 and that worked more or less as before when I bought the router, except for the WPS problem which I will come back to at the end of message.
I then reinstalled v10018 from my HD and that works now better than before, that is to say, it behaves like the reinstalled v10016.
Now I noticed there is another problem, this time with WPS. When I bought the router the WPS Led indicator (underneath the WPS button on the front panel of the router) was always off. Now it switches on when I enable the /Enable Wireless Router Radio/ button under the 2.4GHz pane as well as under the 5GHz pane. I don't want that, for safety reasons I would like to disable the WPS facility in the NetGear Genie but I don't know how; I haven't found any tick-box called /Enable WPS/, or something similar.
Furthermore, I would like to communicate with the developers working on the WNDR3800 firmware. With NetGear Genie I've experienced lots of strange things and I really would like to communicate with the firmware folks directly, that is via email or this forum; can that be done??

without physical presence in front of router to initiate WPS connection so someone from outside can not use WPS to connect. There is WPS Pin disable option maybe found in the interface to refer to manual. - NGDiracDeBrogliAspirant

Well yeah, sure,...... buttons can also be hit by accident, you know. And with children around things can really get difficult and uncontrollable sometimes. So, it would be very wise, and smart, and nice, and customer friendly, and .... if the firmware developers working on v10019Beta could introduce a tick-box called /Enable WPS/, or something similar. I cannot imagine that it is so difficult to implement such a tick-box.
I would be nice if this request could be forwarded to the developers.

Hi,
I got another problem. Through NetGear Genie I can remotely enable the Radio (2.4 and 5GHz) of the router but I cannot disable them!!! In the pane BASIC > Wireless I tick the box [Enable Wireless Router Radio], then push Apply resulting is a 2.4GHz radio signal: so all good up until there. Then, I logout from NetGear Genie.
Sometime later I want to switch off the 2.4GHz radio. So I open NetGear Genie again, I go to the same pane BASIC > Wireless to untick the box [Enable Wireless Router Radio] but that box is gone!! There is no pane anywhere in the entire NetGear Genie with the box [Enable Wireless Router Radio] that could be unticked. So I cannot turn off the Wireless LAN remotely anymore. The only way to switch it off is by pushing the physical button on the front panel of the router.
The weird thing is that the entire interface in the pane BASIC > Wireless has been replaced by the interface which is in the pane ADVANCED > Setup > Wireless Setup. Hence, in the pane BASIC > Wireless I can then change the Security Options, introduce a PassPhrase, change the SSID, etc. This must be clearly a serious BUG for the simple reason I cannot imagine that this behavior would be intentional.
So what is there to be done? How can I turn off the Radio (2.4 and 5GHz) remotely?
