I've included my history for this year from the time i got this modem. This is a full log of tests from both the XR500 and ISP router as you can see the XR500 is capping the speed to lower then half.
Anyone have any ideas why the router is killing the isp speeds so much.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
as another test today ive removed the xr500 altogether and wired up my old netgear r7000 and done speed tests from bt, virgin, speedtest.net. and all come back around the 450-500 mark. Soon as the xr500 gets pluged back in im down to 150-260.
This is tested with wifi disabled and only one pc/laptop pluged in ran 4-6 times each. The results come back the same as soon as the xr500 get reinserted to the network all speed test drop to well below half.
with all the aboue settings in the 1st post.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
Yes ive tried all 4 ports,
wireless comes out a bit faster 250mbs - 306mbs. Id have to run more tests on this.
Speed, during tests in taskmanager comes out just a little higher then reported on test sites. so 209mbs site, 220,230 in task manager.
Lan based tests are showing 700mbs-900mbs between an unraid server and the same pc accross all lan ports on the xr500. (iperf tests).
For me it just seems like the qos system is not being disabled even with qos enabled the speed still remains the same about half with share excess. Factory reset dont seem to have any effect is there another way i can make sure the QOS service has been stopped.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
QoS page:
In the Anti-Bufferbloat options set speeds to what you expect
Disable QoS option ticked
Good put enabled
Anti-Bufferbloat set to never
Both download & upload Anti-Bufferbloat sliders set to 100%
Double check both share excess options (1 for download, 1 for upload) are ticked for Bandwidth Allocation
Remove any rules for Traffic Prioritization as well as disabling DumaOS Classified Games.
Do other devices whether wired or wireless get similar speeds?

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
ok ive tested with all settings aboue well apart from one listed below. Also all tests are done with the same two cables both sandstorm cat 6 cables but also tested with cat 5.
Double check both share excess options (1 for download, 1 for upload) are ticked for Bandwidth Allocation
I only have one tick box for share excess and its ticked.
The speed reporting is still the same. I just think i have a bad box or bad fireware install
Firmware Version
V2.3.2.56 |
Ive been messing with this now for a few months i just cant find any reason the throughput is being throttled in the xr500.
Sorry yes all devices are the exact same the xr500 seems to be throttling the connection. Side note wireless seems a bit faster but still not close to the isp speed.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
First set the MAC address of the XR500 in Internet Setup to the MAC address of your previous router and reboot, then see what the speeds are.
Second if that fails, upgrade to the same firmware again and then reset to ensure it wasn't corrupted during the initial upgrade.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
Ok i've tried all the solutaions you have said and none of them do anything the xr500 remains limiting my connection.
I'm pretty sure i've now tried everything over the past 4 months unless someone has any other ideas i dont think i have any real choice other then return the product.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
Im a little confused on this request but i've tested and well its much lower 80 - 120mbs that seems much worse.
Lan i get about 150-210,
5ghz normal 190-220
5ghz guest 80-120
~Tested muliple times over the day from lan, wifi, accross 1 laptop, 1 pc(1 at a time everything else removed from the network). All connecting to the same birmingham server on speedtest.net. Now replace the xr500 with my r7000 and im hitting 480-520mbs pretty much accross all devices.
guest wifi ive only done about 10 tests since your reply.
I really dont understand what its doing.

Re: XR500 Internet speed Problem
Ok so Secured is lower then having nat open
Secured 120-190
Open 210-260
R7000 Default setup 530-550
Sorry i didnt get alot of time yesterday i managed to get some tests in during the day and then this morning.
Another item ive noticed on the graph chart the speeds are slow to raise with the xr500 kind of a slow curve to get the speed with the speed near the end the speed im reporting to you with the r7000 its pretty much jump straight to 500 mbs. I'm wondering if the site gave longer to run the test would it infact hit the 500 mbs.
https://i.imgur.com/kJvrS1u.png
This is with the xr500 it starts slow and just keeps going up even as the line gets straight its still going up its just slow.
With the r7000 it follows along the path of the purple line (upload line) straight to full speed.
Now with this in mind i did some testing using fast.com (netflix speed test site) on this site you can change the lenght of the test and my orignal thoughts kind of ring true if i change the default test lenght i do infact get higher speeds
https://i.imgur.com/mTodG49.png
Min 10 secs, max 60 secs time frame 600-800 mb file download i get around 580-620mbs
(default) Min 5 secs, max 30 secs, 300-400 mb file download i get around 280-320 mbs download.
I really dont know whats going on the good news is it does appear to be getting full speeds its just slower to hit that max speed.
