New AX11000 with old AD7200 (X10)

Looking at replacing X10 with AX11000... I have an AT&T Gateway/Router, so the X10 is in AP mode and I use the Plex feature. Two items, if I replace the X10 with an AC11000 (also in AP), and I want to use the X10 as an AP, should I connect both to the gateway/modem or chain the X10 to the AX11000? If the X10 is daisy chained, will there be any issue using the Plex or attached drive (I’d think not, but while I’m here...)? Thanks- CH

If the modem is being used as the router for your house, and both the AX11000 and X10 are both in AP mode, then it doesn't much matter how you connect them to the modem via ethernet, although connecting both to the modem would probably be more efficient.

However, you might want to consider turning off the WiFi on the cable modem and using it as just a modem. Then use the AX111000 in router mode to make a subnet, and attach the X10 in AP mode to the AX11000. In this case, you definitely want the ethernet cable from the X10 going directly to the AX11000.

Personally, I have a setup that is kind of insane. My cable modem provides a WiFi network for all my smarthome devices (SSID: family name). Then I have a RAX120 creating a subnet with a separate WiFi SSID (this one with a scary-sounding SSID). Computers, mobile devices, streaming devices, home theater stuff, etc. goes here. Then I have a RAX80 in AP mode connected via ethernet to the RAX120 to help fill in the inevitable dead zones in the house.

That way, if the smart washing machine or Hue bulbs or the SmartThings hub turns out to have crappy security and gets compromised, all my important stuff still has another firewall between them and the IoT stuff in the "main" network. I'm sure the firewall in the router isn't worth much, but hey, it's better than nothing, right?

I  have my X10 in AP mode and it's hardwired to my RAX200. Bringing it all together is my Netgear CM-1000 cable modem.
