Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Hi everyone. First time needing to post anything. Bought R9000 — Nighthawk X10 AD7200 Smart WiFi Router from Amazon on 2020-08-08. The ports stopped working after a storm we had. My Xfinity modem had to be replaced after the storm. The Nighthawk's wireless is working great but none of the ports work for my wired devices. All fairly new cables.  Very similar to this 2018 post: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Wi-Fi-5-AC-Routers/Nighthawk-X10-R9000-LAN-Ports/m-p/1671...

The loopback test was successful. All ports lit up: https://kb.netgear.com/28408/An-Internet-or-LAN-port-isn-t-working-correctly-on-my-router-How-do-I-p...

I know it's out of warranty so I was hoping the community could share any tricks that might save me from having to replace it. I didn't do a factory reset since, reading through forums, it didn't sound like it would do anything. It's also on the latest version of firmware.

Thank you for any support you can provide.

Yep it ended up not being the ports, just everything that was connected. Replaced docking station, vpn hardware and NIC and it's working. Thanks for your help.

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Try this, disconnect the router from the ISP modem and ALL other ethernet devices.

Press the reset button for 10 seconds then release. Wait 15 seconds, then pull the power adapter from the wall out let.

Wait 1 minute.

Press the power button so it pushed out or goes to the OFF position.

Plug what power adapter back in.

Press the power button to turn ON the router.

Connect only one ethernet cable to the back of the router, try port #6.

After the LEDs are ON, try accessing the router at 192.168.1.1 with a web browser...

Storms are unpredictable in the effects they can cause. The LAN section may just be dead.

Any sign of life on the LAN LEDs.

I assume that you have reset the device.

There is also a chance that the firmware got corrupt, but not fatally killed, in the storm So you could see if you can bring it back to life by reflashing the firmware.

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Tried michaelkenwa suggestion, no luck yet. One thing I did notice is my gateway is no longer 192.168.1.1 but 172.16.0.1. Any idea what that is about?

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Normally the Xfinity gateways are a combination modem/router.  When your Xfinity gateway was replaced, was the new device configured in bridge mode?  This is usually done to support a downstream router like your R9000.

What is the model number of your new Xfinity gateway?

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Thats a gateway router.

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

The easiest way to sort this out might be to follow these instructions:

Using Bridge Mode On Your Wireless Gateway - Xfinity Support

The idea is to disable the router bit of your gateway, the TG3482G, so that the  R9000 does the heavy lifting.

That could be down to the intervention of the Gateway. It is a sign of the dreaded double NAT that your TG3482G has wished upon you.

You may find that it has hijacked the 192.168.1.1 address and your Netgear router then opted for 172.16.0.1.

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Thanks michael. I just turned off bridge mode. Here's what I found. All the devices wired to my nighthawk still won't work BUT I used my wifes laptop to do disable bridge mode and it is working wired to the nighthawk. I even moved it around to the other 6 ports and it worked each time.

Does that lead you to believe that the devices plugged in network ports were fried and not the nighthawk?

Do you mean turned on?

The idea is to turn on bridge  mode in the the modem router and leave the R9000 to be the router.

What devices were these?

If your wife's laptop works on the router's LAN ports that suggest that there is nothing wrong with the router.

Did you answer the question about the state of their LEDs?

Re: Nighthawk X10 AD7200 LAN Ports Not Working

Sorry yes enabled bridge mode.

One of them was a Dell docking station for my work laptop. The other was my work Aruba (hardware VPN) and my desktop integrated NIC. So yea I don't think this is the router.  I'll know when I get a new docking station and a PCIe NIC for my desktop arrive and are installed. 😀

Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
