How to use 5Ghz band on MR60?

I have an MR60 mesh system and I'm trying to get my Macbook Pro to connect to the 5 Ghz band. I have some programs that need that and the laptop only connects to the 2.4 Ghz band by default. How can I get it to connect to the 5 Ghz band?

Beside of the maximum available speed, there is no logical difference if using 2.4 or 5 GHz radio for the connection - everything connects to the very same network.

Why do you think the MBP does not make use of the 5 GHz band?
