Nighthawk R7000 not allowing Samsung Smart TV to access internet.

My Nighthawk R7000 will allow our new Samsung smart TV access to the home network via wired and wireless connection however will not allow access to the internet. It allows all other traffic onto the net no problem and I have tried disabling Parental Controls to no effect. Also I have disabled Access Control inside Attached Devices, again with no luck. I tethered the TV through my iPhone and access was granted immediately so it looks like the Samsung equipment is working properly. I've rolled back the Firmare as well from 10.16 to 10.10, again no result.

Any suggestions?

What happens when you try? Any error messages?

Connecting a TV to the network is usually best done through the TV's controls and set up routine. The router rarely does much more than spit out the wifi signal. It is then down to the TV to do its thing.

My experience is that Samsung stuff is dreadful when it comes to connecting, but once set up it is fine.

  • I tried to connect again this morning and it just worked. I didn't change any settings or cabling just waited 2 days and hey presto the Samsung TV decided to log on.

Probably won’t buy any more Samsung products. It’s a great TV but only when it’s online.
  • I have also just purchased a Samsung q80t and it will connect via hotspot to my phone but will not connect to the internet through either wired or wifi.

If you are looking for help, you don't say, then see the previous conversation. Start with the "control panel" on the Samsung.

I actually do need help, the R7000 will not allow my new Samsung TV to connect to the internet yet every other device within my network does. The TV is connecting to the router successfully and i can see it either via LAN or Wifi from the router in the connected devices. I reconnected my old router (billion brand) and the TV connected to the internet fine. I had my IT network guru look through the router settings and i have no additional security or setting blocking that IP address or specific sites. The firmware is up to date with latest. I assume Netgear need to check the compatability with Samsung......

  • For me it was that I had inactivated 2.4MHz. So my router only send WiFi at the 5GHz net.

When I activated 2.4GHz, my WiFi-net appeard at my Samsung TV.

A lot of older wifi stuff can't handle 5 GHz. Maybe many modern TVs still rely on 2.4 GHz, which is fast enough for most streaming services.

In my case, I gave up on wifi because it is fiddly to set up and more likely than a wired connection to fall over. Instead I went for Powerline Ethernet.

I have the same issue with Samsung products not working properly with Nighthawk. My wife's phone (s10) connects to wifi after router restart and then loses the internet connection while still connected to wifi, the same with other samsung phone model. Just 2 days ago we got new Samsung TV and ... the same - it hardly connects and when it's done it lasts for couple of hours and then loses internet connection. From router's perspective the connectivity is just fine. Sasmsung helpdesk claims that if the device connects to other networks without issues then this points to router conf. or ISP.

Dozens of other devices works in my network without any issues so this must be something between Netgear and Samsung and if I weigh cost of phones+TV against router the choice is quite simple - change the router even though both heldesks ignores customers evenly.

  • [My solution] Hi everyone who has the problem with router connection with no internet. I had the same problem - my TV and cellphne connect just fine to the router, but were showing no internet connection. I just recently purchased Netgear product and it almost drove me insane with working/not working with my Samsung cell phone and then not workign with my Samsung TV. Same story - Samsung TV worked fine with two other routers and not with Netgear. Cellphone could not get Internet through main networks, but worked fine with the guest networks. Eventually I narrowed it down - Netgear somehow decides to block access of some devices to internet. Please connect from your laptop or workstation to the roter and check connected devices list. You have to manually "allow" access of those devies to the Internet. The cellphone app the comes with the router is just not good enough to notice this and fix.

Never seen reports like that before. It would be good to have some details so that people can be on the lookout.

      Which devices were blocked?

Where did you change the settings?

You are not wrong there, which is why experienced users try to avoid these toys. They are designed to make life "easy" for inexperienced users. Anything slightly off piste can cause problems.
