Firmware Level That Would Have Been Out-Of-Box With Router?

I read that doing the "hardest" reset on a router does not reset the firmware to the "out-of-box" level. I want to setup my router from "scratch". So, that would involve setting the firmware to its original level and then upgrading it to the latest; in addition to re-doing all of the settings.

I'm okay with doing this. but I can't find out the original firmware level. Anyone know where I could find that, or what it might be? Also, any thoughts on setting back to the original level and then updating right away to the latest? Should I go up level by level?

I like trying these things to see if I can poke-and-prod the router to do what I think (or the manual says) it should do, so I don't mind experimenting. Any responses to my questions, or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks all...

P.S. Off topic--anyone know what the supposed mandatory "*Labels" field is for when I create a discussion topic? Never seems to take anything I enter and there's no list of labels as the we page states there should be. Seems that my post is eventually entered even without a label.

BTW--the router is an RAX48.

You will set it up "from scratch" if you have the latest firmware and press the reset button. There is nothing to be gained by having old firmware.

What do you expect to do by installing the first firmware? That version is the one most likely to have bugs and missing features that get fixed and added in later updates.

But it you insist, here's what to do.

Visit the support pages for your router.

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number. That page will also have a library of firmware your device.

Then follow these instructions:

It is there to help to find the device we are talking about and to guide you to the right section. In your case, it would be better to post in the section for the RAX48.
