Gs205v2 Registration Requirement
I tried the manual configuration option, but didn’t know how to enter in the required details, ie; DNS, Gateway, IPv4/IPv6, etc.
was it just not working because I hadn’t registered it??

Re: Gs205v2 Registration Requirement
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the LAN Switch products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Switch products and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

I just need to know if this switch needs to be registered in order for it to activated. Or, is it really plug and play?
Nope kind of activation. Registration is for warranty purposes only. Really PnP.
Appears you should know more than that...

I spent a couple of hours trying to get it working. Connects to WiFi hub for Apple computers, but did not work via Ethernet to HP desktops.
If the Link LEDs are showing up on both ends, the physical Ethernet link is fine. Set up is plug it to power and the network links - but this is where your problem seems to start.
Wild guess, this "WiFi hub for Apple computers" might be a router (brand and more details unknown), and you have connected the switch between for example a cable Modem (where is just one publig IP address made available by the ISP) and the WAN/Internet port of that other device. This leads to the problem that the HP desktops don't get a valid IP config - what is expected. Does this magic "WiFi hub for Apple computers" have additional LAN port(s)? This is where the switch uplink needs to be connected to - that router will supply valid lAN IP addresses through the switch to your desktops.
Modem <-> WiFi Router <--LAN ports--> Switch <--more LAN Ports--> Computers
If this magic "WiFi Hub" should be a AirPort Express 802.11g (1st Generation) or a AirPort Express 802.11n (1st Generation) or similar low-cost similar device, there might be just one WAN/Internet port - and no LAN port to add more devices. In this case, you might need a real decent WiFi router.

Fighting windmills caused by a wrong connection set-up most likely. Again, no mandatory registration or activation required.
