Can you log into the router with a ethernet connected PC then change the password thru the routers web page at 192.168.1.1?

Tell us a bit more about what you are doing and where it goes wrong.
When and where do you get this message? Using the Nighthawk App? Login from a wifi client? On a PC?
Is this a new router or something passed on?
Is it the only local wifi source?
Just another user with time on their hands.
