I have a RAX120 that is limiting my speed to about 940MB down..... both my modem (arris s33) and my ISP support 1.2GB. If I upgrade to a RAXe500 will I be able to utilize the full (or close to) 1.2GB? Any other recommendations to increase my speed? Thank you!

If you've connected it to the 5g ethernet port, you'll change it to that port.

Then check the wan port statistics to ensure its connected at multigig speeds

so you're a little stuck. Both the the RAX120 and the RAXE have multigig input. But not a 2nd multigig port for output. So the router might be getting multigig but its challenging to get it out to devices.

Both have lan port aggregation that can get you multigig speeds but not many devices support it.

You're (more than likely) still getting multigig from the S33. An easy test would be to run a speedtest on the hardwired device and a wireless device at the same time. It should hit faster than the 1 gig speed. You can also use the built in speedtest in the nighthawk app to see the faster speeds.

Do you really need to make the large investment to hit multigig? Thats debatable as most sites won't saturate even gigabit. Because if they did for everyone, their server/ISP costs would be astronomical. Usually the only time you max out a gigabit line is during speedtests. Even streaming 4k only takes 25-40mbps.

So unless you're moving truly massive downloads, its not going to impact your usage much.

But it does feel better during testing.

When I run the Nighthawk app speed test I am seeing the 940 speed consistently. Are you saying the I should see closer to the 1.2GB?

yes you should. 2 things you'll need.

1. To be connected to the S33's multigig port

2. to be connected to the RAX120's multigig port from the S33

You'll have to go into the RAX's settings to ensure the internet connection setup is set to get its connection from the multigig port.

Once you've done that, you can check that connection.

Glad you got it fixed!

Before upgrading to a newer router, if you're on xfinity (which your speeds tend to indicate), you might be in an area with the mid split upgrade. meaning you can potentially get faster uploads. I noticed a difference for working from home going from the 40mpbs upload to the 240mbps upload. If you don't work from home, you might not notice the difference.

I checked.... not available yet in my market. I am however looking to dump Xfinity for Verizon 5G home..... I need to install an antenna (check out natar tater on youtube) to get the best 5GUW signal... Here is a the speed I get on my old iPhone 12 standing outside. It is incredible.

Seems like some solid speeds. I didn't really notice much difference going from a 300mbps download to a 1.2gig download. So you should be pretty set with those speeds unless someone in your home uses massive mounts of data.

Not sure if they cap it or restrict speeds at all through. My parents use a verizon home 5g but are limited to a 50mbps line (but they're on a cheaper plan)

Still limited to 40MB up..... I live a in a small market, they always get upgrades to us last!

I agree, @plemans does do good work!

Keep in mind, Xfinity has not released the updated firmware to allow the SB33 to connect to their Next Gen network. Maybe by the time the physical upgrades are in place at your location, the firmware will be released.
