Switching routers and can't log in to new router when connected to the Internet

I am switching routers. I am going from a XR500 to a RAx54v2. Everything is working fine when I use the Nighthawk app on my phone. But when I try to log into the new router when its connected to the Internet via a browser(Chrome,Edge), I get this message "Access to the requested page has been denied" after I enter the login information. The URL changes to https://accounts-qa.netgear.com/error?redirectUrl=http:%2F%2F*(new router IP)%2Fgenie_redirect_SSO.htm&serial_num=(Old router). If I disconnect the new router from the Internet I can log in with no issues using the IP address. I deleted cookies and such with ZERO success when the router is connected to the Internet. SO where is this https://accounts-qa.netgear.com? What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated and TIA!!

did you initially set it up using the app?
If your logging in through the browser, the login should be "admin" (all lower case) and then whatever password you setup. You can use password recovery through the browser if you have the serial number.

What connects the router to the Internet?

If it is a modem-router/gateway the set up process may have detected that and adjusted the old or new router accordingly.

It may be a good idea to reset both the modem and the router when you set up the network. You should certainly follow the required set up routine.

  • Turn off and unplug modem.
  • Turn off router and computers.
  • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
  • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
  • Turn on computers and rest of network.

Just another user with time on their hands.

Re: Switching routers and can't log in to new router when connected to the Internet

Factory reset the router with the router disconnected from the ISP modem and setup manually with a PC and web browser:

There is a known issue with logging into the routers web page in newer versions of FW:

Also disable Protection Engine on the routers web page under Advanced tab/Security
