can't view own website

Hi,

All of a sudden we can't see our own website even though the internet works fine - no changes were made to the system.  The website displays correctly from other computers/phones.  We didn't make any changes.  ISP says our ip isn't blocked

Suggestions on how to fix would be greatly appreciated

NETGEAR 08

Thanx!

Brian

Not much to go on.
What NG product are you referring too? NETGEAR 08 isn't a model #

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Re: can't view own website

We have a Nighthawk Model RAX70 and the firmware is listed as V1.0.12.114 which is posted on the password reset screen.  We're looking for working login credentials, documentation, and advice before we make any changes.

We really don't know much about the modem or even which wired box it could be so here are snapshots of the existing equipment:

Hawaiian Telephone handles the connections and say the all looks good with the modem.

Thankyou very much for the help!

Re: can't view own website

Not sure that I understand the subject of your message. What is this "own website".

Do you mean the browser graphical user interface (GUI) for your router? That's not so much a website as a way to get at your router's controls and settings.

If this "modem" is the ZyXel thing in the picture, I can't see any indication of a model number. However, the confusing (to me) picture of the thing suggests that it may have a set of LAN ports on the top. If so, there is a high probability that it is a modem router. Add that to the RAX70 and you may have two competing routers on your network.

Two routers on a network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

Re: can't view own website

Hi,

Thanks for taking a look!

The website in question is mnbg.org and the ancillary stuff that goes with the account such as email and the cpanel - strangely we can't see it from the office.  The office's can see the rest of the internet. It was working Wednesday the 1st at the end of day but not the morning of Thursday the 2nd.  The rest of the internet can see the website also.

Hawaiian Telephone say we are ok from their end and the hosting solution says we are ok from their end.  We are good with the rest of the internet.

We are totally unknowing about the existing hardware.  We are a botanical garden on Maui in Hawaii run by a small non-profit and have had changes in staff so the history of the network is one for the archeologists.  The remaining staff are primarily devoted to preserving native Hawaiian plants.

I'll research the links you have suggested.  Any other troubleshooting tips will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Re: can't view own website

Update --->Moved website to another hosting solution (this has been in the works) so there is a different IP and the office still can't see their website, or login to their cPanel, or get mail.  Works from everywhere else?

Quite the mystery!!!

Re: can't view own website

Is the website hosted on a local server or a remote server?

Also, are you able to view view the router logs to see if it is blocking anything

Also, if all else fails, an additional troubleshooting step you can take is heading to the debug page at router IP/debug.htm (for example 192.168.1.1/debug.htm

And then with a flash drive connected, enable LAN and WAN packet capture and then set the location to the flash drive. and then start capturing debug logs.

Then after that try to load the web page a few times, then save the debug log and uncheck the packet capture.

You can also grab the packet capture files from the flash drive connected do the router.

You can then use an application such as wireshark the inspect the packet capture files. This will help you to see what is happening when you try to load the web page from the perspective of the router.
The log files will also detail if the router's firewall is doing anything weird.

PS avoid sharing debug files and packet capture files in any public place. The debug logs will contain all setting changes done to the router, in plain text (including things such as DDNS settings), and the packet capture is everything sent and received from when you enable it and start capturing until you save the debug log.

PS, if behind a double NAT, along with local resources on the main ISP router and behind the RAX70, many things will behave strangely or not function reliably.
