Anyone know how to get connected devices to show up as what they actually are in the Orbi app? A while back I used to be able to log into the router via a browser and manually set name, brand and model
I have had an Orbi for over seven years. I do not recall ever having the ability to create an entry for "Brand" on the web interface. I simply included the brand information as part of the model number, such as "Epson ET-3760".
One annoying aspect is that the Orbi web interface and the Orbi 'app' appear to be maintained by separate programming groups. (plus the Apple and Android versions of the 'app' also seem to be 'different') One obvious example is the graphic displayed in the description of each device is not the same. Many of the graphics are 'similar', but some (such as the "Camera") are wildly different.
It seems clear (to me) that someone on the 'app' programming team decided, "Hey. The MAC address has a manufacturer code at the start. We can use that to look into a manufacturer table and display the Brand of device. Cool."
(never mind that some products now deliberately randomize the MAC address, which makes determining the brand impossible.)
You may also have encountered the irritating situation that entering new information into the Device information does not immediately result in the Attached Devices table being updated. Updating the information appears to write to an internal table, but Attached Devices does not pull that new information from the table. Wait for several minutes, then refresh the page, and the new info will be there.

You are right, now that you mention it, I recall I used to set the name and combine the brand and model together in the Device Model field via the web interface to have it display correctly in the app. But, now in the app they have the model and brand separate and the model doesn't appear to map to anything, or it is pulling from some table on the router that has old information as I previously had a Surface Laptop 3 on the network and this brand-new television is showing Surface Laptop 3 as it's model in the app. Disappointing that I spent as much money as I did for this mesh system, and they can't get something this simple correct. The least they could do is allow us to override/set it in the app. Currently the only editable item in the app is the name. I guess the silver lining is that the router performs great.

I have the Android 'app' version 2.41.2.4183 and find that text in the 'model' field appears after the manufacturer information in Connected Devices. I changed my printer model to "xyz", waited a few minutes, and then connected the app and there it was "Epson - xyz"
Although....... Noticing that the picture was incorrect, I edited the picture to be the printer icon again, and when the list of devices appeared..... none of the devices had the model text below each item. Went out of Device Manager, came back into Device Manager and now every device displays that text in small letters under the Device Name.
This is not shaping up to be a good day for the Orbi 'app' (see the post about Anywhere Access)
