Insufficient passphrase length. It should be a minimum of 8 characters long.

Insufficient passphrase length. It should be a minimum of 8 characters long.

I'm trying to simply disable SSID separation on my Wireless 1, and it give that error even though the password is 9 characters.

I've tried on 3 different browsers and 2 different devices.

It has repeating characters, so it isn't 8 unique characters, but really?

Latest firmware V4.3.2.102

Re: Insufficient passphrase length. It should be a minimum of 8 characters long.

I tried setting a random 16 char password temporarily, but that didn't work either. I'm guessing it is trying to check the password length of the 5g password form on the page, which gets removed when you disable separation, so it throws the too short error.

Workaround:

Disable password while disabling split SSID,

Re-enable password after reboot.

A little bit confused how this SSID separation ever was enabled for Wireless 1 (and as well for the Guest Network) - not an intended feature, making it an illegal combination:

They added it an a firmware update not too long ago.

Nice find. Please check if the https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Pro-Beta/bd-p/en-business-orbiprobeta builds are correctly allowing this (in my personal opinion useless) feature.

If this isn't addressed, @hnagaraju and @DavidGo need to know and take care about.

I've had far too many issues with release firmwares. I'm staying FAR AWAY from beta firmwares.

SSID separation is absolutely not useless when you want to lock your 5ghz capable IoT devices to 2.4ghz, as well as many other use cases.

I guess you're not a fan of fine-grained control of your devices?

Just ran my SXK30 series for about 10 days earlier this month:

My password is 8 simple all alpha lowercase for the main SSID. Been using this same PW for past 20 years.

Re: Insufficient passphrase length. It should be a minimum of 8 characters long.

Maybe I didn't explain the situation properly, so I'll try again.

On wireless 1, I had 2.4ghz and 5ghz separation ENABLED for a couple months.

The password I've used for that WiFi has been the same for years, and hadn't changed. I had zero intention of changing it.

All I did was try to disable separation, and hit accept. I didn't change anything else. That gives the error of "Insufficient passphrase length. It should be a minimum of 8 characters long." The current password was still shown as ********* in the password box, and it was still 9 characters.

With separation enabled, there are 2 different passwords. One for 2.4ghz, one for 5ghz. As soon as you uncheck separation, one of those password forms on the page disappears. I'm ASSUMING the page is checking the length of both passwords, even though one gets removed by unchecking separation. It seems to be an issue with the webpage itself, not the feature of separation.

I already posted a workaround:
Disable WiFi password on 2.4ghz, Hit apply and wait the umpteen minutes it takes these to reboot.
After reboot, Disable separation, Hit apply and again wait the umpteen minutes it takes these to reboot.
Re-enable WiFi password, Hit apply and yet again wait the umpteen minutes it takes these to reboot.

This message is a red herring ... appears there is a bug in the changed specs to make some people happier, apparently....
