Can't update firmware on brand new RBK753
I just bought a new RBK753, and the admin page in a browser shows that the current firmware is V3.2.16.22_1.4.9, which is a year and a half old. It shows that a new version is available - V4.6.5.14 - but I can't get it to update. For the satellites, on the firmware update page, it says, after checking, Update failed.
I downloaded the appropriate firmware files, and when I try to upload them to the router or to the satellites, I get the following:
Firmware upgrade failed. Please check your file.
Are these devices not upgradable? I really don't want to have to reset them and try again; I already needed to do that once with support when I had trouble setting them up.
Also, it's impossible to log into the iOS app, where I thought this might be easier...

What browser are you using?
Try updating the RBS FIRST to v3.2.18.1 then RBR using a web browser and ethernet connected PC connected to the RBS web page. Log into the RBS web pages and send the unpacked FW file here. Be sure to unpack the .zip fie to reveal the .chk file. Then try same with the RBR. I recommend using MS Edge or FireFox for this.
Can you get to this version of FW?

I'm far from a pro on this stuff, but I ran into the same problem on my new RBK753. I was using my Windows/FireFox browser and the N-G router interface page at the time since I hate loading otherwise unnecessary apps on my iPhone. When I told it to check for new firmware, it loaded a new version for the router, but both satellites said 'update failed' under their new firmware version. While investigating, I noticed that the file for the router was conventional, while the file for the satellites was in zipped format. After a couple of tries, I succeeded in unzipping the satellite file and then tried a manual update. I'm sure that was the problem, as the process then proceeded as you'd expect.
MY result, however, was catastrophic...as I had unknowingly made the mistake of trying to do both satellites at the same time. I had checked the boxes for both before hitting 'proceed' because hey, why not, right? I'm doing both, so go ahead and do both. I finally found the online owner's manual on N-G's support page, and read the firmware update instructions...where they specifically warn against doing more than one satellite at a time. You'd think they would have put that warning in the web page interface's instructions, but noooo. Needless to say, it ended up permanently rendering one of the satellites unrecognizable to the router.
I returned the units, and purchased a refurbished RBK753 this time...just in case. This time, I loaded the app onto my phone and let it do the update...which went off without a hitch. now running V4.6.5.14. Maybe the Apple app doesn't care about zipped files the way Windows browsers do? IDK.
I'm now seeing that there's yet another update available...V4.6.9.11. This time, my browser web page interface successfully downloaded both router and satellite files correctly, so I think I'll go ahead and let it do the update. It did work perfectly on several firmware updates with my old RBK53 setup.

RBS can be done at the same time, however to do this, it's highly recommended you have the RBS web pages up for each in a browser and send the FW file to the RBS using the RBS web page first. After you see the circle percentage displayed, then you can send the RBRs FW file on it's manual tab update page.
Once all is back online, Power the RBS and RBR off for 1 minute then back on with the RBR first, then one RBS at a time. This is how I do mine each time.

I've always wondered if the browser page interface was smart enough to do everything in the correct order when I click on "update all"...

It's supposed to but I prefer ensuring each unit gets updated using that method I posted about. Have never had a problem using that method to date. Works well.
