Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
I think this thread already shows that, for those that HAVE posted here in the forums, for most of THESE users, there is a Orbi FW issue. However that doesn't mean that some users who have not posted, this doesn't mean others may or may NOT have issues. I've seen something as little as a factory reste and setup from scratch help some. We also can NOT discount the ones that have posted and say they have not had problems, unlike the majority. I'm also in the minority as well. My 7 series has worked well for many weeks with out seeing problems that don't reflect what the majority is seeing. However this is NOT about the majority or minority. NG ALREADY KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEMS in FW. This subject and discussing is a dead horse. All we can do is to help those that are having problems here in the forums with suggestions and alternatives, UNTIL NG gets this fixed. Fixes DO NOT happen over night. And just because this seems to be on long ongoing problem, doen't mean they don't care. Other mititgating factors like COVID and work place changes over the past two years maybe playing a part in this as well. Do ASSUME anything. So were here to help as best as we can until the fix comes out. For those users who don't want to wait or can't, please return your system and go find something that does work. For those who can't return your unit, try the suggstions here in the forums and also contact NG support and let them know about what your experiencing. Otherwise, everyone will have to be patient while we ALL wait for NG to get things fixed.
Have a nice day.

Although I do not have the issues cited in this thread, since I operate my Orbi as AP and have updates blocked (currently static at v3), I fail to see any statistic that the MAJORITY of users do not have the claimed or similar issues. One could easily say that the majority do have issues, but are not posting in this forum, or just lurk to find answers.
I lurk in various forums quite a bit for answers to issues I may be having with electronics, automotive, appliances, etc., etc., etc. I rarely post myself if I am able to find answers by lurking/searching on the internet - even if the (current) answer is that there is no fix at this time.
Nor do you provide any statistic that the MAJORITY are having issues. This is all symantics. I'm saying many users have little, to no issues post installation in that they don't have to resort to rolling back firmware, blocking updates and executing draconian procedures to get back to a stable netwrok.
Just because the forum is littered with "widely documented" firmware issues doesn't mean other users are experiencing these issues. I posted early on my issue with what I thought was a DHCP renewal fix...totally my own expereince, fixed for me, but I have no idea if that is the official fix. I don't even know if it was firmware related. Nor have I ever expereinced a sattelite dropping connection to the router and flashing blue. It worked first time out of the box. Saying that a MAJORITY are having issues and not posting is simply conjecture.

That is precisely my point. It is conjecture to assume the majority have problems as much as it is conjecture that the majority is not having problems. The bottom line is that NO ONE knows, simply because there are no statistics/information to state either way.

Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
Facts before this firmware 4 ( no do not know the exact versions but there have been fixes tried to this latest version. ) on like version 3 I had my router running perfectly for many many months.’
Fact this new version hits and weather it is the firmware, how the firmware is installed, A combination of the firmware and the hardware version you have, etc many other things lol
With this new firmware suddenly all heck went sideways. For me I got the auto update overnight, (and was like 3 weeks after other already got the latest firmware update and we’re starting to see all these exact same issues) and then experienced all the issue others reported. Wifi Devices were dropping and then picking up or dropping all together and not being able to pick up or dropping and then when I plugged and unplugged they connected. All of this stuff started with the latest firmware.
Now comparing the firmware to medicine. If we pick one type of medicine some people are not gonna have a side effect and some will. Same came apply to this situation. There is a large enough that are being affected
Now if you are right and a very small number of customers are being affected by firmware for update. Then it is easy for Netgear and just replace their routers and or recall. That would have solved everything
But the issue is enough of us waaay back worked with Netgear sending them logs and stuff that they said there are some situations were there was an issue with the firmware and they are trying to fix it
So Netgear did slightly admit
Like others my issue were weekly at first. My router would be fine for a week or two then I would have to do a reboot and sadly the reboot wouldn’t work and I’d have to reboot 5,10I think one time 30 times and then my router is back to normal. Then we got a fix of firmware for and then my reboot problem didn’t fix anything and I was back to where it was before I had issues. Spent a Sunday adjusting readjusting everything I could think of under the sun just trying different scenarios and then removed only ax for 2.4 and all other stuff was left default for what I can remember and all my issues were fixed. Now it seems like monthly or so have signs of an issue we’re a do you devices drop off and join drop off and join, I just do a reboot and restart no problem on the first time and everything is back to normal again for a month or so.
But again speeds and connections are good , for me, but not as good as the last fully stable firmware.
And naa I did not was to downgrade as too many steps (in my opinion for the price I paid ). I almost was back to old router but luckily stumbled on that 2.4 ax fix
Hopefully soon this will be getting more stable one way or another

Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
Well.... It is not as unstable as it was but it is not what it should be. It is self-healing at this point (rebooting itself without manual intervention). Only had 2 minutes of downtime Friday.
What is LAN3? 2.4? That is concerning but I like self-healing.

To the cute Netgear apologists: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Whole-Tri-Band-System-RBK752/product-reviews/B086HJXKJJ/ref=cm_cr_get...
I think it's at least half of the recent reviews that are having similar issues. That's a big percentage.

Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
Glad you got the RBS updated. You can always manually update RBS FW as well:
If your still having some minor issues, try disabling AX mode on the RBR for 2.4Ghz. Set CTS values to 2347. Set 40Mhz only channel width. Preamble to Long. Has helped some for others.

Uploaded and rebooted and thing s ran well, however my connection gets dropped from time to time, except when I was In the room right next to the router. I get full cable speed (200/30) and things are livable for now. I just need to do some more tweaking. Something about increasing mtu channel changes and whatever the guy was talking about. I lost my connection while I was at work. LOL

LAN1, LAN2, and LAN3 are the three ethernet ports on the back of the router. This is showing the speed of the ethernet connection to devices on each port. All the ports are capable of 10/100/1000 megabits per second. For over a decade, most computers have come with the same type of port (10/100/1000) and when connected they negotiate the highest speed that the other end also supports. Some products, such as the early Firesticks and many older security cameras do not support 1000, so they will connect at a slower speed. And, some older ethernet patch cables are not capable of 1000.
2.4 is the Orbi 2.4G WiFi channel, and 400mb is the highest speed it is capable of
5G is the 5G WiFi channel, which has a maximum (theoretical) speed of 1,200.
Yes, a reboot will show up in the Orbi log file (Advanced Tab, Administration). Where it appears in that maze of debug files is a good question.

HAHA.. I know what they are.. TV and Alarm system and I know why the uptime was bad.
Since this I have had two reboots until today. It started having a rebooting siezure again so I called Netgear and they could not figure it out so.... hard reset. Reload cfg. Lets see how this works now.

@converge2 wrote:Like many others here I started to get issues with dropouts with recent 4.* firmware updates.
Been super stable for at few days so I thought I write down what I did.
Dropouts were basically reconnects from satellite to main Orbi. I'm in AP mode behind a pfsense box (Netgate 3100).
Tried giving everything that's running 24/7 a static IP and permanent ARP table entry. Thought it fixed it, but drops came back.
Ethernet connecting as much as possible. Still drops (WiFi devices only, Ethernet rock stable).
Factory reset + manual reconfigure. Again, good for a day, but then came back.
Satellite is only about 25-30ft from base, so I thought devices might get confused (although they never have been in the past). Set the transmission power to 25% for 2.4 and 50% for 5Ghz. Coverage still good (should have been a nicer neighbor and done earlier) but still drops.
Removed AX for 2.4. Still dropping.
Removed multi media setting for 2.4 and set the channel from auto to 1 (1 is what my Mac WiFi diagnostics recommended). Rebooting everything in the network. Stable!
Jinxing it by posting here. TBD.
Updating to say that while it seems slightly more stable, I'm not convinced that the settings changes make a huge difference in my case. So don't want to send anyone down rabbit holes. I got an Ethernet cable fix for the most annoying drop case, the others I can live with for now and hope future updates make the Wifi more stable.
Final update from me: Performance has been good recently. I'm in a densely populated area and with everybody WFH, and an increasing number of devices, occasional drops are probably unavoidable. No idea how much the firmware contributed to it. So, if you are in a similar situation, maybe order a couple of Ethernet cables and one or two switches. It's cheaper than buying a new system and the wireless backhaul of the Orbi never disappointed me. I reduced the number of WiFi devices by half and that seems to fix it (or maybe I had a problematic device that tripped the satellite on wireless - I think someone reported a similar cause identified by NG support). Anyways pretty happy with the system again.

The specs for the alarm system and TV should indicate which ethernet standard they support. I would not be surprised to see an alarm system supporting only 10base-T. Maybe even a TV.
(I was incensed to discover that my PoE security cameras had only 100base-T until I realized that the highest bandwidth created by my cameras is under 10mb/sec, which is only 1/10th of 100mb/sec. If 1000base-T PoE costs even 5 cents more than 100base-T PoE, why spend more for something that won't be used?)

Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
Well, if it is not one thing, it is another. The "help" I received from NetGear Support was not very helpful.
Now I have limited stats as seen below. I do have Internet access. BUT.. I have no 5G.
This is getting a bit ridiculous. I will reset again and not reload the cfg. I will recreate from scratch.
If that does not work, I will insert a router in front of this and turn off the WiFi on it. Then I will turn off DHCP on the RBR and put it in AP mode to see if that provides stability.
Router: Commscope RAC2V1A

Is the 5G wireless working?
This maybe just a UI thing.
How old is the back up config file you are using?
Ya try a reset with out loading a saved config and setup from scratch and generate a new one.

5G loses connection when I am 15 ft away at 100% power. Not a UI thing.
The config is 5 days old... not an issue there.

Re: New - RBR750 / RBS750 Firmware Version 4.6.5.14 Released
I did a second reset and tried to run it in AP mode behind the Router and it projectile vomited across the room. It would not resolve any www sites and was I did not have time to spend babysitting it as work was looming.
I did a third reset back to router mode and I am still having the random reboots and times when it just locks up and will not respond to WiFi or enet connection to reboot it. I need to pull the power plug, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in to get it to work again.
This unit is defective beyond all measure. I have updated the open ticket and we will see what happens.
