ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

I have Netgear Orbi CBR750 with RBS750 satellite.

I own this for two month now.

Four days ago, it started dropping internet every 1.5 hours.

Rebooting the router would bring the internet back.

I called Xfinity, the tech came by and he checked the line all the way to the router. He showed me all the reading he got, the gain, the frequencies test and it all looks green. So it is not the cable.

After some digging, I noticed that 1.5 hours corresponds to the Lease Expires time that is present on the Connection Status page.

So I tried hitting Release and than Renew buttons once the internet went down - and that would bring the internet back.

As of right now, I am going to the Connection Status page and doing the release/renew every 1.5 hours.

I am not sure what happened and why it started doing it. It was fine for two months. I didn't update the firmware.

I tried setting up the static IP - it didn't help. It still dies after 1.5 hours.

Any help would be appreciated.

Firmware Version for the modem is V4.6.3.6_2.0.48. I have updated the satellite firmware today to V4.6.3.16.

Event log screenshot is attached.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Please post a copy and paste of the modems connection status page.
Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.
Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.
Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.

Connection Status page screenshot is attached.

There are no splitters. I am using good quality coax cable. I tried powering off and on.

How do I make sure ISP provisions the modem correctly?

There should be a connections status page silimar to this:

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

One item you need to ask your ISP about:

These shouldn't be seen in the logs I believe. Maybe why the CBR can't get a seamless connection and can't get a IP address seamlessly from the ISP. The ISP needs to ensure the CBR is getting the config file correctly. Have them check the events log on the CBR as well.

My system just randomly started working. I assume something was up on the Xfinity side. Sorry I don't have any details, I honestly have no idea why it started working.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

I would presume the ISP had done someting on there side. Most of the time this is a ISP signal issue. If the signals and configuration are not done well or with in specs on the ISP side, makes it hard for ANY modem to work right.

My system just randomly started working. I assume something was up on the Xfinity side. Sorry I don't have any details, I honestly have no idea why it started working.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Thats interesting. Im having the same issue i did before my rma. This model still will not stay connected to xfinity without dropping connectivity. Is there anything I can do to verify isp signal problem? Xfinity has been here several times verifying the signal. Interestingly enough once I connect my older cbr (docsis 3.0) it works fine no disconnects no issues... help

Please post a copy and paste of the modems Connection Status page and Event Log page.

@Triggs21 The issue is described in the initial post. I had an issue for about a week, and than it self healed. I didn't do anything to fix it.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Be aware the event log may show inconsistancys due to me unplugging the router and switching coax from the splitter now directly plugged in (no splitter) to see if that makes a difference with dropping internet service

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Ok, Please post a Event log after a while of the CBR being online with out any wire changes.

The Power on the status page maybe too high.

Mines at 0.1dbm range or -1.#Dbm on a few channels on my cable modem.

You might ask the ISP to maybe turn down the power to the modem some.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

And I am back to manually releasing/renewing IP again. Same things as was described in the initial post.

Horrible experience. Especially knowing that the modem I bought is very expensive.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Ive tried almost everything I can think of..

Plus i am a IT technician so if I cant figure it out im just left to assume we all purchased a **bleep** model orbi. This is my Rma that came shipped with a totally different firmware and im still having the same connection issues that everyone else describes, amazon is flooded with negative reviews on this model orbi as well.

My older Rbk docsis 3.0 orbi works completely fine with no issues on the same coax line.

Technically I shouldn't have to do or change any settings to get this new one to work stable, it should work as advertised just like it did when i first bought it 6 months or so ago.

We dont expect something to just stop working reliably after afew months of usage, especially from a company ive never had an issue with.

Is this new firmware gonna save my 600 dollar paperweight??

Sorry for the rant just so hard to believe there is no saving this extremely expensive setup!!

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

I have updated to the new V4.6.5.8 firmware, and it still drops every 1.5 hours. I am opening a ticket with Netgear to see if maybe they can help.

Re: ORBI CBR750 requires manually releasing/renewing the IP

Called Netgear support.

They told me to change the MTU size to 1486, but they couldn't explain why I should do it.

They told me to update CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347.

And they told me to update wireless channels to the highest number for each channel.

They told me this will fix my issue, which it will not. The issue lays somewhere else other than just tweaking the above.

I will wait another hour for the internet to drop, and will call support again hoping they will take me to the Tier 2 support.
