RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

Hi all,

I am trying to host a content manager server so my friends and I can play, but I am having considerable difficulties.

I have done it once before and managed to get it working but not sure what I'm doing wrong with our new router.

I have setup port forwarding on 9600 UDP & TCP and 8081 TCP. Both these have my laptops static IP of 192.168.1.109. But when I launch the server I get the below error.

10:48:24.203: ‽ RESPONSE: ERROR,INVALID SERVER,CHECK YOUR PORT FORWARDING SETTINGS
10:48:24.203: > CONNECTION TO LOBBY FAILED, ATTEMPT NUMBER  1

Content manager has these ports set as default and I have confirmed they haven't changed.

When I run a port check on the above ports it still shows that they are closed, but they should be open. I also have some remote play port forwards for my PS5 and they work fine.

I have ensured my Windows Firewall has an allow rule for the ports, along with the acserver.exe program.

I have also changed my internal IP address numerous times with no success.

I am running windows 11 pro.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Many thanks team.

Re: RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

Hi all,

Just thought I'd let everyone know, after speaking with my ISP, they have assigned me a static IP and it all works good now.

Re: RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

The most common cause of port forwarding issues is having "two routers" (often called "Double NAT") when the ISP device is a router and the Orbi is in 'router mode'.  Since the PS5 forwarding appears to be open, that is probably not the case here.

Another is that Windows has separate rules for private and public networks.  It might be worth ruling out the Windows Firewall by disabling the Firewall (temporarily) to see if that makes the forwarding successful.

Thanks for the reply, I have already tested with the windows firewall disabled for all networks and it made no difference unfortunately.

How are you testing for open ports? (using one of the web sites, "is this port open?")

Since starting the server immediately causes an error, this might be something to ask about in the forum for the Content Server.

Yep, using the below two websites.

https://canyouseeme.org/

https://portchecker.co/

I have asked the question on Reddit as Content Manager has no official forum, but none of the suggestions worked for me.

Just annoying me as I do this for work on the daily, port forwarding to VOIP servers, but cant get it working for myself haha.

Re: RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

another suggestion is to put the Content Server in the Orbi router "DMZ".  I see a LOT of posts about this issue (but am not certain they relate to the same software).

Added 192.168.1.109 as the 'Default DMZ Server', got the same error in Content manager 😞

Re: RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

This appears to point to this Content Manager software.  Ports are detected as "open" when a connection attempt is made and whatever is attempting to connect receives a response.  When in the DMZ, there is nothing to stop the connection attempt from reaching the laptop.  Likewise, when ports are forwarded through the router to the laptop, connection attempts will be delivered to the laptop.  If the laptop does not respond, that will be perceived as "not open".

My approach would be to do more internet search on that specific error message and hope that one of the comments is helpful.  For example, I saw one about some ISPs blocking certain ports.

Re: RBR350 - Port Forwarding issue

Glad you got it working. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
