CBK40 and Comcast/XFINITY issues

I just purchased a new CBK40.

The installation went smoothly.  I unplugged the XFinity modem I was renting and used the Netgear app which was a breeze.  I should have known it was a little too easy.

Immediately ran a speed test with wonderful results.  176 DL speeds which was better than I was getting with the rented modem/router.

I retruned the equipment to XFinity and when I got home, immediately started having issues with both connectivitly and also speed.  What I find odd is that since I have run a number of speed tests which all come out almost exactly the same.  33 DL and 23 UL.  I have spent hours on the phone with Comcast and cannot get any explanaiton or answers.

I am not normally one who buys into conspiricy theories, but it was immediatly after I returnred their equipment.  I also know it could be somthing in my settings, but I cannot figure out what it is.

Any feedback and or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: CBK40 and Comcast/XFINITY issues

Maybe your router is not made for Xfinity and you just got lucky at first bc Xfinity didn't know you had bought your own router and are returning theirs. They're most likely reducing your speed and you can spend as much time as you want on the phone with them but they'll chalk it up to be a problem due to your router. I came across the same problems with Verizon FIOS except my dad bought the router from them so we don't have to return anything and I have an Orbi directly connected to the ethernet port and I am only paying for 100/100 up and down and my wifi speed are crazy high, like in the 100+ both upload and download. This is the Orbi mesh router that is not one of those other kinds of routers that just sit in the middle of your living room or the middle of your whole house. I have the main router in the middle of my house and then the satellite in the basement where my office is and I get 100/100 wifi speeds and when I plug it into the router via ethernet I get roughly the same results, so I think it's the service provider that you're using and the router. I would return your router and buy an Orbi Mesh router as it will give you better speeds and more coverage than before. I guarantee you. Sure it's expensive to buy an Orbi router but you get what you pay for. I consistently get 90/100 speeds via wifi every day and I have 14 devices connected to my router so what does that tell you?

What I have is an Orbi router.  And it says on the box that Xfinity does support it.  Also, I have been on the phone with them and they have not told me that is is NOT supported...

I don't know why it would not work with Xfinity.  I have Verizon FIOS and I've had it for many years and I just took away the original router that it came with and replaced it with my RBK40 Orbi Mesh Router.  The original router was not able to give me the speeds that I wanted. As I had mentioned before, regular router's only gave me a fraction of the speeds that the Orbi router gives me constantly without fail. I simply unplugged the ethernet cable from my wall jack- that was setup by Verizon FIOS and put in in the ethernet/lan slot in my Orbi and it started to provide me with same SSID again. I didn't have to reboot or anything. I didn't even have to have it tethered like I had before bc the FIOS tech's told me that's the only way a 3rd party router would work. Screw them! I tried it anyways and now it is working and I can return their stupid router and get my money back. Their routers are a pos. It was giving me speeds of 30/40 up or down when I was paying for 100/100 wifi but when I plugged in my Orbi, I started to get close to the 100/00 and sometimes more...You have the latest version of the Orbi Mesh routers so I don't know why your router would not work. Is it currently tethered or are you trying to tether it or are you trying to replace the original router Comcast gave you with the Orbi router? If you are tethering and still using the Comcast modem then I would highly suggest that you go to your router settings and change it so that you are not using that router's wifi as that can impede the speed of your Orbi. I would just use the Comcast modem as a modem and not as a wifi AP.

If you are clever enough, you can figure out how to replace your Comcast router with your Orbi router entirely and use the Orbi as your AP and source of WIFI. Like I mentioned before, I just simply took out my ethernet/lan cord from the FIOS provided router into my Orbi and it recognized it right away and I have been using the Orbi router by itself untethered from my original modem. I'm glad that I did bc now I have 16+ devices in my household and everyone is on the Orbi but it hasn't bogged it dow or anything. I simply love Orbi, it was expensive as hell but it was worth it. You should just try to go to your Comcast Admin settings and turn off your wifi and then try unplugging your cable from the Comcast modem into the Orbi and you should be good to go. You shouldn't have to do anything else. The setup is easy if you follow the directions after you downloaded the app via iphone or andriod. If you follow it set by step you should be good to go. You shouldn't have called Comcast for help. They're going to tell you it's incompatible bc they want you to use their routers and not your own so they can get you to pay for the renting of the router and provide you with fewer speeds and give those unused speeds to someone else.

Just follow the simple instruction for the setup and you should be good to go. I love my Orbi!

Re: CBK40 and Comcast/XFINITY issues

My ORBI cabke modem works great on Comcast/Xfinity. I am getting better than advertised speeds, acording to Speedtest.net

You might try going to xfinity.com/setup. You will need your comcast onlin login credentials. Once inputed, it queries your ORBI for serial number, model, etc. and then you are good to go.
