I replaced with RBK50, But still 866mbps speed at router?
Hello, All.
I hope all you guys are doing well in COVID-19 Pendemic situation.
I've been using AT&T1gbps fiber internet plan more than 2 years. I thought 1gbps meaning is download speed + upload speed.
Hoever, recetly I knew it is download speed 1gbops and updload speed 1gbps. and, I've checked speedtest at Orbi app which shows you internet connection speed to Orbi router. It always shows speeds that "500 ~ 550 mbps" in download and "300 ~330mbps" in uplaod.
I surprised, more than 2 years I paid 1gbps plans but, I used only haf of that speed. Right off I checked speed test at AT&T modem PACE5268ac, result is 900mbps at both download & upload.
Fianlly, I got this result, it is because of I'm using RBK20 which has 866mbps backhaul speed. and I bought RBK50 and replaced. But, still speed test in ORBI APP shows same as RBK20. I did, DMZ+ setting and change RBR50 router mode.
Do you think I missed something to do?

Re: I replaced with RBK50, But still 866mbps speed at router?
Is this speed result wired or wireles? If wireless, then you not see more than 866Mpbs or anything near 900Mpbs on wireless. Most wifi devices max out at 400-500Mpbs on 5Ghz AC.
If you have wired PC or laptop, then you should see near 900Mpbs on the 1000Mpb connection rated LAN cable line with the PC or laptop.
If your ISP modem has a built in router, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop

Re: I replaced with RBK50, But still 866mbps speed at router?
No, I've checked the speed test in Orbi App. So, It is speed test Orbi router and AT&T modem(Pace 5268ac) with wired option.
AT&T Modem already in DMZ+ mode which is similar Bridg mode and I change Orbi BRB50 into router mode.
But whether I get RBR50 with AP mode or Roouter mode, Speed is always 500~550 in download and 300~330mbps in upload.
Probvably it should be 800 ~900 in bothway because, it is RBR50 which has 1733mbps Backhaul speed.

Re: I replaced with RBK50, But still 866mbps speed at router?
Wired Yes, Wiress no. The wireless backhaul speed is between the RBR and RBS ONLY. Not for wireless connected devices.
Front haul between the RBS/RBR and any connected wireless devices that supports that rate on 5Ghz AC for the connection rate ONLY will be 866Mbps.

Re: I replaced with RBK50, But still 866mbps speed at router?
I menat why Speed test in Orbi showing 500 ~ 550 mbps in download and 300 ~ 330 mbps in upload. That speed test is not for wireless.
RBR50 is wired to AT&T modem , and AT&T modem is getting 900mbps in bothway from AT&T. But, Why RBR50 can't show that much speed If I check RBR50 speed test in ORBI App.

What others have seen with your model mode:
Modem FW may have broke good speeds between the modem and Orbi in router mode:
