Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

I can only get about 200 Mbs download from my rbr10.

When I connect directly to the RBR10 LAN port, speedtest shows :

Download: 179.6 Mbps

Upload: 17.8 Mbps

When I log into the admin portal (advanced > setup > speedtest), and run the speedtest under the advanced settings, it shows :

Download: 888.11 Mbps

Upload: 11.15 Mbps

When I connect directly to my cable modem speedtest shows :

Download: 888.1 Mbs

Upload: 11.5 Mbps

Thanks for your help in advance...

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

have you tried testing with a different device?

Or trying a different test site?

What device are you testing on?

What 5ghz speeds do you get?

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

Thanks for your suggestions.
Looking at the devices' admin webpage it looks like it might be negotiating 100Mb on the interface instead of 1000Mb.

I'll try different cables and powering off/on the devices in different order.

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

trying different cables is a great option. I've seen sketchy cat 5e cables not negotiate a gigabit link.

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

also, make sure to have qos, access control, traffic monitoring, and parental controls all disabled.

If they were ever enabled, you might need a factory reset of the router.

the RBR10 was the most base model mesh system and wasn't that powerful.Gigabit speeds takes a pretty good cpu if you're going to be doing any packet inspection and those services put a strain on the cpu and can slow speeds. Sometimes even disabling them doesn't take the load of the cpu and a reset is needed.

Ah, I do have the traffic meter and security enabled. I'll check. I can disable the traffic meter. Not sure about network protection.

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

So I was also thinking I could put it in bridge mode so that my ethernet connected traffic does not go through the Orbi. Watcha think?

What are you thinking of putting in bridge mode?

Different manufacturer's use the term "bridge mode" to mean different things.

Re: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

So...

1. I get about 800Mb/s speed (Ookla Speedtest) when directly connected my laptop to my cable modem .

2. When I check the speed using the RBR10 admin web interface (Advanced > Setup >Speed Test), I get about 800Mb/s.

3. When I connect that same laptop to the LAN port of my RBR10, I get about 200Mb/s.

- The LAN port show 1000M/Full (Advanced > Show Statistics)

- It was suggested that the CPU load on the RBR10 might be high due to the network security or traffic meter features.

Setting up the RBR10 in bridge mode would let me connect my wired systems directly to the cable modem and just use the RBR10 for wireless -- both would be on the same network and I should get my full throughput on my wired connections, anyway that's my logic.

SOLVED: Orbi RBR10 slow LAN port speed

Ok, so turns out that the LAN interface on the RBR10 was acting wonky. I would plug in the laptop, do a speedtest and find that it was sometimes slow, sometimes not. It was very helpful to look at advanced>show statistic in the web admin interface. Watching that with another laptop show that it would "flop" between 1000M/Full and 100M/Full. I set the interface to on the laptop from Auto Negotiation to 1000M/Full Duplex and got the higher throughput.

I factory reset the RBR10 and re-installed the latest firmware and now I am getting 943.52Mb/s through the RBR10 LAN port consistently.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Kudo's to plemans.
