I’m not sure why it’s doing this but I’d like to just use the att box as a modem and rely on the orbi as the router. Is there a way to make that happen with att?
Sorry not real knowledgeable on all this.

Any of those 3 should work.
What I'd recommend? it'd be based on your capabilities.
If you don't use the orbi's parental controls or other features, just put it in AP mode.
If you use them. Then try the passthrough or dmz option.

Re: Orbi RBR20 with AT&T internet
its because att installs modem/router combo devices.
it puts you in a double nat. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
options?
1. put the orbi in access point mode
2. put the att router in passthrough/modem only mode
3. put the orbi in the att's devices DMZ
