Orbi RBR40 router flashing white (long) - white (short) - yellow (short) - repeat

After experiencing network throughput and connectivity issues, I power cycled my Netgear Orbi RBR40 by unplugging then waiting 30 sec and reconnecting power.  It started flashing a sequence of colors on the top LED, a long white followed by a short white then a short yellow, repeated.  I tried the sequence again, tried powering off my modem and tried the paper clip hard reset.  Nothing changes this behavior (including the hard reset).

I can't connect to it, so I cannot list the firmware version.  I purchased the system, the router with two satellites, in April 2020.  It has worked flawlessly until now.

I have not tried to connect via an ethernet cable because I don't have the right connector for my Mac.

Can someone help?  It seems like a hardware problem to me.

Thanks,

Jim

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Turn off the RBS. Disconnect the RBR from the modem. Power ON the RBR and press the reset button for 15 seconds then release. Wire connect 1 wire PC to the back of the RBR. You can connect the PC to wireless as well using the default wireless SSID name and PW. See if it will slowly pulsate WHITE on top, if it does, try and access the RBRs web page at 192.168.1.1 using the PC and web browser. They make USB to ethernet adapters for mac and inexpensive.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response.  I followed your instructions (below), but nothing changed.  It still keeps flashing that sequence.  The default wifi network does not show up on my list of available networks, and connecting a cable with static IP (below; with found my ethernet dongle) does not show any connection.

static IP: 192.168.1.10

subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

router IP: 192.168.1.1

It never gets to the stage of slowly pulsing white on top -- it just keeps flashing the sequence of white (long) - white (short) - yellow (short).

I don't know the firmware version because I cannot connect to it.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Jim

https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
Need to press the reset button for 30 seconds then release, then it send to PUT the command and upload the FW.
I had a problem on a Windows 10 PC where this didn't work to use TFTP, so I switched to a WIndows 7 PC and the TFTP worked.

If no luck with that when tftp didn't work, try:

If this all fails, then the RBR would be bad and would need to be replaced...
