Orbi RBS50 daisy chaining satellites from different sets

We've had a set of Orbi RBS50 router and 2 satellites for a few years now.  Recently acquired a couple more RBS50 satellites from a different set and am trying to daisy chain one off of one of our existing satellites.  Not having any luck doing this.  Would love some ideas....

Re: Orbi RBS50 daisy chaining satellites from different sets

Would you please try this:

  • Locate the new satellite in the same room as the router.
  • Use the Orbi web interface menu item Add Orbi Satellite (see page 12 of the User Guide:
    https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK50/Orbi_UM_EN.pdf )
  • Verify that the satellite was successfully added and shows up on the Attached Devices display.
  • Then, move the satellite to the desired location, power it up, and see if it connects to the nearest Orbi device.

Thanks

Re: Orbi RBS50 daisy chaining satellites from different sets

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it did not work.  Our set of Router and 2 Satellites works great.  I was trying to Daisy Chain from one of our original satellites, to a satellite from a different set and I'm wondering, since all the units that come together as a set have the same password, if me trying to add one from a different set, is part of the problem.  Here's what I've tried so far.

I took the unit I'm trying to add to our set, into the room where the Orbi router is, plugged it in, turned it on and hit sync.  It went through the process but wasn't found by our set.  Then I connected them with an ethernet cable and tried again.  Nope.  So then I tried pressing the sync button on both units to see if they'd find each other.  Nope.  I even took the newer satellite out to our original unit and tried all of the above.  No luck.  If I can't connect to the newer satellite to change it's password, I'm probably out of luck?

I know it sounds tedious, but did you actually open the menu item "Add Orbi Satellite" and follow the procedure one step at a time?

Re: Orbi RBS50 daisy chaining satellites from different sets

Thanks for the suggestion and my apologies for not getting back to you sooner.  We've had a lot going on around here and I just forgot.  But I did go into the system and try to add a satellite that way.  The alien satellite never showed up on the system and since it's not part of our original set of router and 2 satellites, the password is different.

One thing I did do was to run a cable from the Frontier router and turn it on.  According to the colors as it was booting up, it synced.  When I logged into the Orbi system, it showed the alien satellite but it was off line and I couldn't get to it through the system.....  I keep reading about going into advanced settings and using the daisy chain setting but I can't find advanced settings on the phone app or my iMac computer.  I had hoped to be able to at least access the alien unit to change the password to match our current units.  Even if plugging it into our frontier router worked, I don't need it to be in the same room as the orbi router...which is also plugged into the Frontier router.  So still trying to figure it out.  Thank you for responding and again, sorry for the delay answering you.
