Hi everyone,
I just installed my new Orbi System (also ran the firmware update, currently 1.4.0.18) with 1 satellite and everything seemed to run pretty smoothly. That was until I switched on my TV... It´s an IP-TV system (Telekom Entertain in Germany) and after five seconds of running the screen freezes. The media receiver is connected to the Orbi satellite via LAN cable. People with far more networking knowledge than myself told me that my router probably doesn´t support multicast, which is needed for IPTV. Can this be true???
I buy a €400+ WiFi system to get all my networking issues sorted out and it is no use for IPTV? Please, someone tell me what to do (other than throwing my Orbi into the trashcan...)
Thanks
Alex

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
The only setting to try is to enable IGMP Proxy in WAN Setup.

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
Hi Ether, thanks for trying to help, but I can´t find anything of relevance under WAN Setup...
These are my options in WAN Setup:
Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection
Default DMZ Server | . . . |
Respond to Ping on Internet Port
MTU Size(in bytes) | |
NAT Filtering | Secured Open |
Disable SIP ALG |
Do you have any other ideas? Thank you.
Cheers, Alex

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
Strange that it's not there. Try performing a reset to factory settings. If the setting is still missing, then you may have to resort to using the Orbi as an AP instead of a router.

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
I installed Orbi system couple of days ago and I have IPTV connected to Orbi router with ethernet cable. I don't have any issues. My firmware is also the latest 1.4.0.18.

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
Ok, that´s makes me more relaxed. Could you please tell me something about the Setup you made?
I assume you use orbi as Acces Point ?
And you are using the MR400/MR200 as Receiver?
Did you made any special Set up or just plug &play?
Thanks

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
This is the setup I tried but which failed (screen freeze):
Modem/Router: FritzBox 4790
Orbi Router, setup as Access Point, plugged into FritzBox
Telekom Media Receiver 303A+ plugged into Orbi Satellite.
Orbi Wifi workes like a charm otherwise.
I tried all sorts of tweaks in the FritzBox and Orbi setups, nothing worked.
I keep getting hints that I should use a switch which has IGMP snooping, but given the above setup, where should I put it? It just seems that the Orbi system is not able to handle multicast...
Hope this helps
Alex

Re: Orbi useless for IPTV (no multicast/IGMPV3)???
Hi rookie8155
Thanks for your reply. That means Netgear Orbi does not work for German IP Televison as it cannot handel Multic Cast Datas IGMPv3 as it used from german Telekom fro their IPTV.
I will use than instead Devolo Gigagate to get the IPTV Receiver connected .
Thanks
