Dear users,
I have a connection issue between Orbi RBR50 and the Router. After upgrading to Fiberglass (500 MBit) I have connected the RBR50 via a Cat7 cable to the Router (Telekom Speedport Smart 4). In the Internet RJ45 connector it connects only up to 100 MBit, the RBR50 only forwards max 100 MBit then to all other RBS- Satellites.
After putting the Cat7 cable into the normal RJ45 socket where i ususally plug in the PC, the RBR50 connects with GBit and the RBS50´s are connected with full speed of 500 MBit.
Hooray, but the RBS 50 is now illuminated in magenta and the app says no internet connection even though there is in reality one.
I checked the tiny golden wires at the connector of the RBS50 and they are fully okay, a picture is attached.
How can I save the issue? Thanks for your feedback,
Benekles

I am sure you will be laughing....
I placed an 1GB switch in between, so connected the CAT 7 cable to the switch and then with a CAT5e cable to the RBR50 - it connected with 1 Gbps!
Okay, assuming the CAT7 cable is not accepted by the Orbi, I connected it with a CAT 7 cable to the switch and now I expected again to have it connected at 100Mbps, but no, it is also connected with 1Gbps.
I do not have an answer to that strange behaviour. It seems as it just did not like directly been connected with the Router with that CAT7 cable. I just could not change the CAT 7 cable because it is in the wall.
Nevertheless, thank you very much FURRYe38 for the idea solving that issue.
By the way, I always forgot to say, that the Firmware is the newest, 2.7.5.4.

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Try option #2 first...
CAT6 UTP cable is recommended.
What is the connection rate speed shown on the RBRs web page under Advanced tab/Show Stats/WAN port?
What firmware version is loaded on the RBR and RBS?

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
Dear FURRYe38,
thanks for your reply. I understand that you see the problem in Double NAT and I understand the 3 options in eleminating Double NAT. Generally of course it was not my wish to create a double NAT, but it is due to the following reasons:
General setup of my System:
Modem is a Fiberglass Modem (without WIFI) from the german Telekom, only transfering Fiberglass into Ethernet data. This modem is connected in my house on the 1st level to the Speedhome which is setup as a Router creating a Wifi for the 1st level of the house. Additionally there is a Mesh Wifi 6-Repeater from Telekom installed in the living room on the 1st floor.
The Orbi RBR50 is of course setup as Access Point and connected via the CAT 7 cable through thick concrete/steel ceiling as the losses even through the backhaul are around 50%. On the second floor the Orbi spreads to 2 Satellites the data and PC´s are connected. Also it builds up an additional Wifi for the 2nd floor as the Wifi from 1st floor is too bad on the second floor.
As explaining this, if I want to keep the Wifi network on both 2 floors on a high level, I cannot avoid a double NAT situation, can I?

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
So if you have a ONT or fiber modem with out the wifi, then be sure that the RBR is in router mode.
You may need to check with the ISP for there help and information to see if there is any additional requirements of connecting the RBR to the ONT or converter unit there.
Also check the connection rate at the RBR between the RBR and ONT or converter unit. The RBR will display this speed under advanced tab/Advanced/Show Stats/WAN port. Should read 1000Mpbs.

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
Hi FURRYe38,
thanks again for your very fast reply!!!
For clear details and maybe a better understanding, my setup of devices and cables is like this:
Fiber --> ONT Telekom --> CAT 5 UTP --> 2.5 GB/s --> Speedhome Smart 4 with WIFI "A" as Router --> CAT 7 S/FTP 568 B.2 --> 100MBit in WAN port / 1GBit in Ethernet port --> RBR50 with WIFI "B"
I thought due to the fact that the Speedhome Smart 4 Router acts as a Router including a (e.g. A named) Wifi I had to setup the RBR50 as AP not to ensure double "translation". I have a differently named Wifi setup 1st floor (A), the 2nd floor is setting up another WIFI (named "B") which is the same for alle 3 Orbis.
The above mentioned connection speeds are data from the Speedport Smart 4 Router. At the moment the Wifi built up from Orbi does not allow internet access. Only via LAN connected PC´s have Internet access. Also I cannot connect to the orbilogin page and check what Speed settings are available there. I have to factory reset the Orbi again to access it.

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
OK that helps.
So the RBR is in AP mode. And on the WAN port of the RBR it's only connecting at 100Mbps?

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
Would be curious, do you have a 1Gb non managed switch around that you could connect the RBR to to see if the WAN port will connect at 1000Mpbs?
Could temporarily connect any wired PC to the WAN port on the RBR and review the connection rate seen on the PCs ethernet adapter to see if the adapter is connected to the RBR WAN port at 1000Mbps. Disconnect after testing.
If a switch or PC shows 1000Mbps, then the issue may not be the RBR, rather what the RBR is connecting too.

Re: RBR50 connection issues with Router only 100MBit
Glad is working now. Ya, some odd behavior or possible sub standard cable.
I'd also change out the CAT5 cable in between the media convert unit and the ISP router. CAT6A STP would be recommended. What I use.
Glad you got it working. Please mark your thread as solved so others will know. Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.
