RBR50 with Switch Not Working
Hi all,
I just picked up an Orbi RBR50 with a satellite unit. So far I am pretty impressed by the interface and wifi when tested throughout my building.
This replaced an old network, where I had two wifi routers, one daisy chained off the next with a couple of switches running off these.
I now have ROUTER > ORBI > ORBI SATELLITE > SWITCH
................................... V
.............................. SWITCH
The devices wired into the switch off the ORBI unit are working fine. One device is a VOIP phone which has connected into the network with no problem off an old Zyxel switch.
The devices wired off the second switch which is plugged into the ORBI SATELLITE are not functioning. I cannot get a VOIP phone to connect into the network or a computer which requires a hardwired ethernet connection.
I have checked and I have internet no problem off the ORBI SATELLITE using wifi on my phone and using computers connected to this via wifi.
The issue therefore is the switch running off the ORBI SATELLITE.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how I might solve this please?
Thank you 🙂

Re: RBR50 with Switch Not Working
Which switch is it?
Some switches have features that don't work great with orbi. Like "green" functions. Not all of the are this way as I have 2 green ethernet switches on my network but I've read of others with these issues.
Have you tried swapping the switches? If they swap and the same one doesn't work, I'd be looking at a different switch.

Re: RBR50 with Switch Not Working
plemans - thank you for the reply.
The switch that doesn't appear to like running as an extension from the Orbi is a Netgear ProSafe 16 Port 10/100 Switch Model FS116.
It is odd that this switch doesn't appear to want to work since the other switches I have are both working fine. One being a ZyXEL ES-108A direct to the ORBI Base station. The other being a Netgear from the same generation as the FS116.
What puzzles me the most is why the Satellite cannot serve the FS116. I have replaced the FS116 with the ZyXEL directly on the end of the Satellite and this also does not work. The implication is that the Satellite cannot serve a switch using its ethernet ports in the current configuation, so I am wondering what settings may need to be changed to allow this?

Re: RBR50 with Switch Not Working
Your going to want to change the FS switch out. The FS switch only supports 100Mpbs thus FS=Full Speed. You'll want to check out a GS=Gigbit Speed thus 1000Mpbs to use with Orbi. Be sure the switch is non manged and doesn't have any green ethernet if possible.
